So, as I've sent my FX55 to boblemagnifique for some cascade testing, I've started playing with a new CPU...

SYSTEM

Code:
Code:
Opty 146 CAB2E 0546GPAW
DFI nF4 Ultra-D 623-2BTA
2*512 TCCD 507 | 2*256 BH5
1*Gb X800XL
Antec True Power 2.0 550W
Win XP Pro SP2 | Win 2k3
COOLING

Code:
Code:
Liquid chilling:
Compressor 1/4HP
Pecomark condenser
HX tube inside tube
R402A charged
Pump Barwing BWV02 (10mH2O - 1200lph) + pump Swiftech MCP655 (3.7mH2O - 600lph) (pump Atman AT-103; 1.2mH2O - 1200lph)
Homemade waterblock
OVERCLOCKING RESULTS

1) CPU Max Screen @1.81V = 3444MHz chiller [email protected]°C | http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=76935

2) CPU Max Stable @1.68V = 3118MHz

CPU Max Stable @1.47V = 3073MHz

CPU Max Stable @1.45V = 3051MHz

CPU Max Stable @1.42V = 3001MHz

Nice results

Did you try bumbing your v-core to something like 1.65-1.7? I know that my CAB2E Newark could run about 3.05 prime stable at 1.42v but it took a large jump to gain stability above that. Good job!

Thank you very much metalman!

Didn't try to bumb the vcore today, I was mainly trying the find stability with vcore lower than 1.45V... I've just increase it to 1.57V in order to take a max screenshot...

Nice, if your chip scales like some of the other CAB2E you can possibly get it prime stable around 3.2ghz. That chip still may have some more to give, you still have some major headroom with voltage, and I don't think your temps are gonna get above 50C
. Good memory controller if you can get it stable at 300 FSB, the Newark craps out at about 273 FSB.

I had a question about your FX55, was 3.44 a suicide shot with a similar settup? Keep us updated on how it performs on cascade please! I can get a suicide shot at 3.4, maybe more with my current settup but I do have a Dry Ice container being manufactured for me.

In fact, the memory controler of this chip isn't as good as the one of my FX55... I've some problems to get my BH5 with tight timings and descent clocks

Yes; check this thread for details

I'll update the other thread with the cascade results... Let's see yours with DICE please

I wish I could afford a high end watercooling system when I get my Opty 146/3700+ Sandy... Oh well. A TT Big Typhoon will work well enough. Very nice OC.

Thx mate!

Watercooling is nice, you may wish to have one for your next CPU.

SWEET... I jelious!
It's been said the Optys mem ctrl is optimized to be more accurate to help eliminate errors, sorry no proof of that but the slightly lower PI times compared to simular systems and minor timing varations seem to point to that. After all it's ment to run servers and accuracy/stability is paramount.

It's probably true that mem ctrl of Optys are on average better than those of other A64s... but the only comparison I've made is between this Opty 146 CAB2E 0546GPAW which is for sure a good stepping and a FX55 CABCE 0516WPMW which is among if not the best A64 stepping around (the first A64s to pass over 4.0GHz were of this stepping). So my comparison isn't accurate as it doesn't represent the general distribution...
I've not to be sad anyway; I'm currently running some 8M Spi... I'll let you see the results here.

i'm noticing that you are running a multiplier of 10. my 165 only shows a multiplier of 9 with my asus a8n deluxe. is that common?
oh and nice speeds.

You don't have the same chip that he's using. He does have a 10x mult, but you don't.
