Over-clocking ATI XFX HD4830

I wanted to know, is it dangerous to over-clock these cards?
Will the life span of the card be reduced, or can it get damaged?

Because this card is amazing plays everything full settings on my 24", and was just wondering if it would be wise to over-clock it using the ati catalyst -auto tune- utility?

it is dangerous if you mess up with the voltage and go over the limit and can cause permanent damage. but there are lotsa precautions anyway so don't worry.

so its safe to use the ATI catalyst -auto tune- utility?
yes. it only uses stock voltage anyway. though you might get random restarts and some bsods or some issues about the driver not working when you overclock way off the clocks but that's just normal. just restart your pc and it should be fine.

just don't mess with the voltage (catalyst doesn't support changing voltage anyway, so don't worry)

cheers

It's safe. You can overclock to your hearts content as long as everything is stable after the overclock. If you start getting artifacts, BSODs, freezes, lock-ups or anything out of the ordinary after you overclock, slowly reduce your core clock and/or memory clock until the symptoms go away.

Ignore the voltage thing gerikoh was talking about, most people who OC their cards don't even mess with the voltage.

the thing is you must be also aware of the things and the cosequence of the stuff you do..if i were you auto tune is a PITA the best way is to mix it all by yourself..
You can use auto tune, though sometimes, auto-tune just doesnt give you a stable overclock. It would be better to research a bit about OCing ATI videocards, then OC manually. Most XFX 4830 i know are good overclockers so I think you can safely OC to 700/1000.
