Hello

I have just sold my Acer Predator XB270HU because I don't game enough and instead I've purchased 2x Dell U2715H

I like the look of these much more but I am missing the 144Hz even on my desktop

I took a look at these specs:
https://www.google.co.uk/shopping/product/9974307883914443835/specs?q=u2715h&oq=u2715h&ie=UTF-8&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60j69i59l4.3061j0j7&sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.&bvm=bv.122676328,d.ZGg&biw=2560&bih=1296&dpr=1&tch=1&ech=1&psi=jcFEV8zeHuGdgAaJqK64CA.1464123789734.3&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi385mUzvPMAhVMLMAKHX0QCdEQuC8IqgE

These state the U2715H goes up to 86Hz

So...

I overclocked both in my Nvidia panel - both overclock to 80Hz no problem, pass the frame skip tests fine, both won't go 1Hz over

My question is - are these really rated at 86Hz max - I know the default is 2560x1440 @60Hz

Am I doing them any damage?

Thanks for any advice

They may support 85Hz at a low resolution but they are definitely 60Hz monitors.

That said, to my knowledge, all multi-input 1440p monitors can't go past 60Hz without frame skipping. Did you follow the instructions shown at the top of the test page properly? It doesn't mean anything if it says "VALID".

Ah right yes I get you now

So even with a slight unnoticable stutter, I can run 80Hz without to my eye having a problem - is this dangerous?

Thanks

Also at 80Hz with stutter does that mean I am losing a full 20 frames, so is still in fact 60Hz?

I've run a few monitors overclocked for years. Might be harm might be not. Current P2416D runs at 75hz flawlessly.

I run mine at 75hz 85hz with no issues and no stutter passes all test as it should.

I could be wrong but from what I could see, if you get frame skipping it will skip every other frame, so you get 40Hz.

Whoa that's really bad! So why do people over lock their monitors? As long as there is no frame skipping it's overclocked?

How did you test the frame skipping? I am using the tool on TestUFO and I'm getting a lot of skipped frames even at 65Hz!

Test UFO:

Frame Skipping Check: Test for dropped frames & missing display refreshes:

you have nothing to lose, even if you set the 60 hertz, the test will also stutter.
