I overclocked my e6600 to 3.2 with 400 fsb and 8 x multi. Im on 1.5 vCore right now and 1.5 MCH. Load temps are 62 max with TAT and 48 idle. Speedfan reads at 30 idle and 50 max. So are these temps safe?

Most people will say around here that system's at stock volts temp should be under 60c on TAT and overclocked rig's should be kept under 55c I think.

Those temps seem a little high. TAT is the trustworthy readout for the Core 2 Duo's and 48c idle is high IMO.

I'm at 3.6GHZ with 1.425v and I idle at 29-31, load temps with dual prime are 52c

Okay i reduced it to 388 FSB and x8 @ vCore:1.45. Hm it still goes to 62 at load and idles at 50. Something wrong with my heatsink? I lapped the heatsink but not the cpu. Still it idles pretty high. Red Shock is air right? hmmm how come my water idles so high!?

You might be one of the unlucky few who got a concaved IHS, I'd look into lapping it

Lapping the IHS does void the warrant but unless that processor arrived dead then you will have no need for the warranty

I'm having the same problem bro, only at 1.39V... Can't figure it out... Same exact temps as you on both TAT and Speedfan. Weird differences.

You might also have a concaved IHS

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&highlight=lap

Well that V-core is a little High for my liking. Drop it until you become unstable 1 increment at a time. The Raise it until you are fully stable again.

However Lapping Voids your warranty Completely...Make sure you wish to do so.

at 400mhz fsb you'll need more than 1.5v on the NB, trying increasing the vMCH and drop your vCore a bit until you are stable. also, if you are running the 9x multi you could check out the thread i posed on enabling C1E with rmclock, which will lower your idle temps drastically.
You should absolutely stick under 60.1C, as it's the recommended thermal specs.
If you're above 1.425Vcore, then it's 55c.

Okay I put my C2D @ default settings. I checked TAT and it idles at 35-38. Is that normal? On 100% it goes to 52.

Now i put the vCore at 1.42 and it idles at 48. 3.15 ghz. Load it goes to 62 -_-....I checked the C2D IHS with a backplate to see if it concave...doesnt seem like it...im thinking i need to redo the lapping on my HS...or bigwater just suxs!

You always have the option to RMA even if the chip does not arrive DOA.

I know, I was saying that if the chip didn't arrive dead then the warranty is useless

I noticed have that little slant near the edge of the IHS as in this picture. Its not the corner but the straight long edge. Is that normal?

the only way to know for sure is to use a razor and put it in the middle of the heatsink in line with the CPU as was already said.

The reason for this is that the only part of the CPU heatsink that matters is a very small strip running down the center where the actual CPU is, it wouldn't matter if the rest was concave as long as your cooler is making perfect contact with that small strip in the center.

It's when that's concave that you will have any difference in temps..
