I've overclocked my 3800+ from 2.4Ghz to 2.6Ghz. I was just wandering if it was safe/ possible to use AMD's cool and quiet with an overclocked CPU, so that when its idle it goes down to 1Ghz, but when theres lots of load it goes back up to 2.6Ghz, just wandering if I can do that... or whether there has to be stock speeds.

you could possibly lose stability when it ramps up the voltage and multi... probably just stick with it disabled

you turn it off in the bios. From what i under stand, it changes the frequency of the CPU by lowering the Multi, and then since it doesn't need as much Vcore, it also lowers that too. I haven't heard anyone that said this helped their overclock..... it can only hurt.

I'm sure you can turn on C'nQ and then overclock with it on and keep it stable, but you'd probably go from a FSB of 250ish oc'd to like 220-230

(just throwin numbers out there.... the point is you won't get as much of a performance boost)

most often it is suggested to disable c&q. And it can usually be found in several places , sometimes under hardware, or advanced chipset, or the cpu config area.

i tried to use cool and quiet on my x2 5000+ and i managed to get it too over 3 ghz from windows. on standard voltage and it kept running and the cpu temp never went up on a standard heat sink and fan.

i read in a few forums that many ppl didnt like it and didnt trust so i disabled it in bois and just played with bois settings and seemed to be a lot better

the cool and quiet on my laptop lowers the multi to 200x4 800mhz from200x9 1800mhz and the voltage to 1.000v from 1.500v......thats why the temps stay so low but if i turn this off and play a little game of need for speed carbon, temps shoot up to 65 (before the AS5 67 and then the multi gets lowered too)It works in the same way on desktops with this function turned on....

With C'n'Q on, you won't be able to OC with the lower multis, so you can only OC by upping the fsb. When the C'n'Q kicks in, the multi and vcore will be lowered. The slower state will have an OCed speed from normal as well since the higher fsb times the lower multi will still yield a faster clock than stock. However, since C'n'Q only kicks in when there is very little CPU activity, I doubt it will run into stability issues. Of course this also greatly depends on how high you run the fsb!

Well When overclocked you can lost stability due to the fact when its enabled an kicks into action it will drop your V-core. Thus will starve your CPU of need volts to keep running your overclocked speeds..If it cannot you will crash or become unstable.

I vote for it Disabled when overclocked.

well i just found out my drivers for CnQ were old..like 1.0.*.* to the lastest
1.3.*.* and it seems to work alot better overclocked...and response is just the same. Idk anything else really cause i cant OC my stuff anymore due to my cheap-O ECS motherboard.... i want a DFI =P

But i guess you could really say just OC with it disabled and when you find your peak turn it back on and see if its stable and doesnt screw up ur stable OC...
