Overclocked Q6600 G0, Is my temps high?

714 Views 18 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  Adrienspawn
I OC'd my Q6600 G0 to 3GHZ (9x333) with 1.1825 vcore. stable 7hrs Prime95 with these temps (attached thumbnail)

Is my temps normal under load? By the way, my cooler is zalman 9700LED. What's the typical temps for Q6600 G0 for idle and under load with this cooler? Thanks.

Hmm.. that is a bit high, but considering that is was under load during 7h I believe that is good...
Try to maximize the air flow inside your case to get lower temps, because at 3ghz it should be way cooler
I have the same chip with the same cooler and clocked at 3ghz mine under load reached 64c so its normal i think

With that low vcore, the temp is high. What was the room temp when u doing Prime95? What case do u have?
Seems find to me the 9700LED isnt that good with quads.

That processor is safe until 71C.. You should be able to get 3.2 or so.
Ya, the temps are a tad high with that setup. Sorry to repeat this, but you should check to make sure you have some nice airflow. Cable management helps airflow, so if it's a big mess, then the air won't flow as well.

Also, did you make sure to use a good amount of thermal paste; not too much, but not too little?

basically, for that vcore, it's high, so the things to check imo based on what you gave us is the airflow and your thermal paste. If you didn't re-apply some thermal paste, or didn't clean the CPU and heatsink before re-applying it then the specific heat capacity would change to hinder the thermal transfer, causing your CPU to heat up more and your heatsink to heat up less, type thing.

Anywho, probably too much info in a short amount of time...

I can get mine stable at 3.0GHz with 1.17v and I'm using the same cooler. I get about 50C during prime. It idles at around 30C.
I got a cheapy gigabyte triton case, maybe this is the reason for the high temps? What's the typical temp for my given vcore under load? how much thermal paste should i put? the manual says apply paste to both cpu and heatsink, is this right? anymore tips would be appreciated.

Thats a bit too high. I have a cheap arctic cooling freezer 7 pro and I my q6600 running at 3.1ghz gets to 58 max. I would expect your cooler to perform a bit better than mine.

I set my limit to 60C, I know this cpu can stand a bit higher temps but I like to keep things safe and cool.
i already reseated my heat sink and reapplied thermal grease twice but still my average temps under load is 61C. could someone please tell me the right thing to do in applying thermal grease? is the included grease with 9700LED good enough for Q6600? or maybe my case is not good that is why im having this temps?
now i know why im having high temps. I just read the Intel announcement about the tjmax of processors and Q6600's tjmax is only 90C but my coretemp is 100C. Now i set it to 90C and im very happy with my temps, 35C on idle and 50C on load. =D

I don't believe the 90C tjmax thing. Some people with water cooling have them idling at 30C (tj max 100) and with tjmax 90 it would mean that they are idling at 20C while the water in their water cooling system is at least 25C hot... Its impossible

well, thats what Intel says. what is their benefit in lying

its about right mine in everest under load was 59c on my blue orb 2 but i do have good cable management and airflow + my room temp never exceeds 23c :-/ idle im at 31c to 34c
i dont really know whats my ambient temp but my room is on AC. Wonder why i have low temps? its because my vcore is only 1.1825v stable 7hrs prime95.

The Q6600 G0 can take up to 71C, so you're still in the safe range.
I think your TJmax should be 95C, am I right?

If that's the case then your temps are 5C better than it shows now on Coretemp.
