overclocking 8800GTS g92 core

1070 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  CL3P20
I need help overclocking my 8800GTS 512mb card.

I had it overclocked before with riva tuner for months but i just updated drivers and i guess riva tuner isn't overclocking my card anymore.

I got the newest drivers off of nvidia site because i got FC2 and it said i needed to update.

Can somebody tell me the best way to overclock this card now? are there any tutorials still around?

Which rivatuner version do you have?

I'm using the newest nvidia beta drivers and rivatuner 2.11. Works great as you can see (GPU clocks in sig)

Here is the download link for v2.11

Here are the shader strap settings for all G92 cores..

Setting even 1mhz less than any of the noted freq above, results in the shader speed, falling back to the precious strap setting. Using RivaTuner's Hardware Monitor function.. you can view all changes and strap movements..for core, mem and shader respectively.

You will most likely be able to hit the 1782mhz strap for your shaders.. with ~650-700mhz on the core.

Lucky you. You got the Samsung memory. I've had the Qimonda crap chips on all of my G92 cards.

what about
1. permitted temperature for overclocking?
2. forceware driver version?
3. ati tool version?
4. did u all overclockers used stock cooling?

1. permitted temperature for overclocking?

Keep it under 70c for best results..80c as a max with stock voltage.

2. forceware driver version?

I have always got my fastest bench runs using the 177.92 drivers for nvidia..and WarCat drivers for ATi.

3. ati tool version?

I dont use it..dont like it. Why bother with furry textures..its sooo boring, and you might as well be using that time to get a bench score.

Depends on the GPU... the more SP's in the core..the hotter its going to get, at lower speeds. You OC most any GPU to its voltage limits with stock cooling and be safe on max temps. BUT the cooler you are able to keep it..the farther the GPU will OC on those stock volts.

I run some GPU's on water..and some I run vmod'd with stock cooling..it just depends.

Getting artifacts usually drops performance so that is why it is a good idea to do
. You be missing out on a better bench score

No..I dont think so. Fuzzy texture tests have NEVER improved my bench score..ROFL! There is more than one way to skin a cat you know..

I did not say I dont test my GPU.. I said I dont test it with 'fuzzy textures'.

I run back-to-back 3d Mark tests, fold and game... once the GPU has passed that..I increase voltage and clock more. I am not OC'ing with stock voltage here.. I am currently working on besting my 2nd place record for HWBot. [me thinks i can handle stability testing
]

Running the 8800GS's at 1.3v at the following:

828mhz core
1998mhz shader
1954mhz mem

*Current best on 3D 06 is 14.4k..single GS.
**Had to edit the sliders in RivaTuner.. because the program did not allow me to clock the core past 815mhz, nor the shaders over the 1998mhz strap.

My goal is to hit 900mhz on the core and over 2100mhz on the shaders..should net me a first place HWbot np..
