Hello, I recently got a Asus VG248qe 144hz monitor, but my laptop doesn't have a dual link DVI input or a DP/MiniDP to actually get there. My alternative is using HDMI and then overclocking my monitor so I can just get a bit smoother picture. I currently have it at 85hz (which seems to be the maximum), and I was wondering if that would shorten my monitors life despite its "native" hz being 144. Thank you!

No it will not affect anything in such a way.

The only limitation will be the bandwidth of hdmi interface; when you hit beyond the max it will do, you will get blank outs repeatedly and/or display corruption.
Those don't harm anything either.
