Overclocking booting problem

822 Views 19 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Cyberbot
Hello all,

I have been overclocking my E8400 and can't get my computer to boot once I put the FSB to 412 or above (3708MHz clock speed). Instead of a POST, a screen simply appears saying 'please insert boot device'.

My CPU temperature is not very high when I run Prime 95 with the FSB at 411. However one of the workers does stop working soon after I begin running the torture test, so I'm assuming that this overclock is not perfectly stable. Increasing the voltage might help but I don't know how to alter this as the options in the P5KPL-CM's BIOS are badly labeled. Does anyone know which options control which components?

The main problem is still the fact that it doesn't boot however.

I can't find another thread with this topic anywhere.

Any help would be appreciated

Can you post what settings are in the bios?
yeah here is what I know:

C1E Support- disabled
EIST- disabled
legacy disk support- disabled
Thats it? Im sure there are more settings you can change.

Increase the FSB a little more and you'll be reflashing the BIOS, a little more still and you'll be reformatting and reinstalling the OS.

What settings are you changing to overclock? Just FSB?
And, just out of curiosity, have you read a whole bunch of overclocking guides and stickies?

How would that reflash the BIOS? I don't understand. I am changing the FSB but also the memory divider option and the memory timings so that the memory doesn't interfere with the overclock. Also I've disabled the EIST. And yes I have read some guides.

I think they're asking settings like BLCK, Core Voltage, QPI and sheet like that.

When you start getting to non-bootable overclocks, if you push farther, (or just happen to jump to far) BIOS corruption will result. then the BIOS has to be reflashed. If you push the memory to far, it will start writing bad data to the HDD, and the OS becomes corrupted.

And don't bother posting all that junk. Screen shots of CPU-Z's CPU, Memory and SPD tabs will be all that is needed...and will provide a lot more useful info.

....LOL

Thanks, I will post screenshots soon.

Reset all the settings and go find some tutorial on how to properly overclock. I admit that I do not know much about overclocking, but it seems like you have pushed your PC too far.
