Hi guys, I'm new to all this overclocking stuff, and wanted to get some info and help from experianced people such as yourself. i'm on a low income atm, and cant afford to buy a new pc or upgrade what i already have, but really want to squeeze a little bit more out of my pc.

i have done little things like increase my paging file size. and used a spare 1gb card for readyboost. but im not seeing much in the way of improvements. sombody pointed me to the AMD overdrive software, but my 760G chipset is not supported.

I'm not expecting a supercomputer that rivals the arura or anything lol, just want to squeeze a little extra out of what i have, but not push it to far, as i dont have enough cash to buy after market cooling system.

Any help or advice would be greatly apreciated,

*edit* intrestingly just used CPU-Z and it says my chipset is AMD 780G
so do i go by the hp website specifocations or by cpu-z? also why would it come up with a diff chipset other than what should have been shipped as stock? confused,com..

I have very little experience with AMD overclocking since I've always bought Intel CPUs, but I'm just gonna ask: What are your current temperatures? (CPU core being the most important one)

Would like to see temperatures under load too. If you're gonna start with overclocking, I recommend downloading Prime95. We use it for stability testing. Run that for 12-24 hours and you can be pretty sure that your overclock is stable. It's a free program.

I'd like to see you run that for say 10 minutes and note the temperatures you get from CoreTemp.

ok heres my temp

i ran prime95 for 10min using tress testing> Blend

Your core went up to 43 degrees at max? That's not too bad. Was it still climbing? If not, it seems you have some room for overclocking.

that was as high as it went, it registerd 43c after 6 min then began to drop back down. by 8min it was at a consistant 36c.
do you think its possible then to gain a little extra?

Sounds like you won't be too limited by cooling at least. I don't know first-hand how well these processors overclock, but given that this is obviously not a high-end build, I would not expect too much. A quick google search gives overclocking results around 3.0-3.1GHz (from 2.7GHz stock), but that is with a high-end motherboard and good quality RAM in testbed systems made for overclocking. Then again, you never know. It's worth a shot, just make sure you don't destroy anything in the process - keep an eye on those temps.
