My friend recently bought a i7 950 from microcenter. He wants me to overclock it to 4.0GHZ. I have a couple questions before doing so.

1. What is the max voltage for that chip?

2. What is the max temp?

3. Would hitting 4.0GHZ be easy for that chip?

4. What should I have my multiplier set at?

1. 1.4V is the accepted usual max voltage, however some people go higher with exotic cooling. You shouldn't have to get anywhere near that, with a 950, 4 ghz is probably doable with around 1.25 Vcore.

2. Mid 70s, however the thermal limit is 100C. If the rig is only used for gaming, you could hit low to mid 80s (during stress testing) and not have the temps become a problem because it won't get that hot during normal use.

3. Yes.
