Overclocking of a Dell Precision M90 Notebook

4988 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  cccccc
I have a Dell Precision M90 with n-Vidia 3500 card.
Since it was quite expensive when I bought it, I have been trying to update it to keep it running fast, so I bought a 128GB Solid State Disk and I was thinking of trying to overclock it a bit in order for it to run faster.
My CPU is the T7600 and I have 4GB of memory of which the 3.25GB is usable due to limitations of the chipset of the notebook. In Windows 7 I have an experience index of 5.9 for desktop and for 3D bussiness and I get a 5.8 for memory and cpu. The Hard Disk index is 6.6.
Any suggestions for improvement from the experts???

You'll never be able to overclock it
Dell locks their BIOS's

As for the 3.25GB RAM, this is only due to the fact that you have a 32-bit operating system. If you install the 64 bit version of Windows 7, you'll be able to use all 4GB!

You can overclock the CPU with setfsb.

But you may need to pin mod the PLL first.
Also you could pin mod the PLL to hard overclock without the need for setfsb.

See my guide here:

I can help you out if you want.

Also @r34p3rex, the OP was right, his chipset will not support more than 3.Xgb ram.
Even if he installs a 64-bit OS.

The chipset will see 4gb, but you will not have 4gb usable because the chipset only has a 32bit memory controller.

So you will always have 3.X usable ram.

If you upgrade to a PM965 or later intel chipset with a 64bit memory controller, you will have access to 4gb.
