Hey guys, just got my new parts installed and I want to get to overclocking but I don't know anything about any BIOS's other than NVidia's.

Here are my specs (sig rig is my laptop, 2ndary rig is this one).

CPU: Q9650 E0 stepping, VID = 1.25
MOBO: Gigabyte EP45-UD3P
GPU: GTX 260 core 192
Ram: Muskin Redline PC8500 2x2GB
PSU: Ultra 750W

I have the CPU water cooled on a MCR220 rad with the storm CPU block, GPU is back on air.

If you could just give me some settings that would be great, also how do I overclock the RAM? I didn't see an option to unlink CPU + Memory FSB and then set RAM FSB separately.

I did a build for a friend, and hit 4.0GHz with the same compionents as you have. it didnt take much for the board. I need the following for 4.0GHz:

vcore: 1.35v
ICH Core: 1.26v
VTT: 1.24v
PLL: 1.57v

Just make sure you use the correct ram divider so as not to run the ram over-spec'ed. You cant unlink the ram, that is only for NVIDIA motherboards.

Start with the ram very low, so set it to 2.00B. Here are the chipset straps:

Tried it with your settings and I couldn't boot at 4.0, only 3.8. Any suggestions?

If it is my old chip, I was able to run it at 4.0GHz with actual vcore at 1.256v (after vdroop). 4.2GHz was achieved with 1.304v vcore!

Yeah, I bought it from Ninja's, and you had an RE right?

I will try your settings again but maybe with a 9x multi and lower fsb.

I actually ran it in a Rampage Formula (X48 and DDR2).

What you can do is set the multi to x6 and test just the FSB speed, the ram and the board settings without having to push the CPU at all. Once it runs stable, bring the multi back to x9 and adjust the vcore to get it stable.

Instead of using the x9 multi, drop it to x6. With a 445 FSB (with x9 gives you 4.0GHz), your chip will run at 2.67GHz and therefore will not be OCed. But the board and the ram, along with the FSB will be OCed. So that means you can stress the board and ram without stressing the CPU. This is a way to isolate the components, and essentially allow you to only have to dial in the ram and FSB settings first.

Ahh ok, will do, thanks.

Also, the 3rd core is always at a minimum of 40°C, it will rise whenever I stress test but it idles higher than the rest. I have tried re-seating the CPU block and it didn't help.

Ok, I got to 4.0 with the settings you gave me, but I'm only like 20 minutes stable, should I up the vCore or do something else? 471x8.5 is what I did.

Thanks SlyFox! Ran stable for 8.5 hours today while I was at work, then I came home and shut it off. Thanks. Are there any particular voltages I should lower to fine tune my OC?
