First time pc builder and overclocker... Right now i'm running 12gbs of Mushkin Ridgebacks on my x58a-ud3r mobo. I'm hoping that I can get this thing to run at 1600mhz in 6-8-6=24 timing or more if possible. Anyone care to help this noob out?
Honestly, I've only lightly skimmed over overclocking basics and I don't know nearly enough to be confident on trying this out on my own...

The i7 930 is from batch #3013A572. Was confirmed from this site that it was from a bad batch... but I also stumbled on another post where a person said he was able to overclock it fine?
Not sure how well this will play with 12gb of ram.

So far, I've downloaded RealTemp, Prime95, CPUZ, and SpeedFan. If there are any other diagnostic softwares that I need for this OCing process please lmk.

Alright, give me a second and I'll give you some settings to try out.

You will of course need to find your own QPI/Vtt and Vcore voltages as that can vary widely from CPU to CPU, but I'll give you some good ranges to try within.

Yes, I am Robitussin. Adobe CS5 Premiere/After Effects to be more specific. I would have gone with an ATI equivalent gpu but then I wouldn't be able to take advantage of Adobe Premieres Mercury playback engine.

And I need to edit my hard drive specs... I thought for sure I was going to get 2 x25m because of a great deal but that didn't happen. Might have gone a little overboard with 4 1tb drives but I'd like to have at least a couple for backups. Better safe than sorry.

QPI/VTT Voltage 1.150v ............  This is key to ram, with 12GB you may need a bit more than with 6GB, plus we are going to try to keep the tight timings.   So you may need 1.25-1.425, all up to your CPU

QPI PLL 1.100v ....................... Auto is fine or you can try 1.14-1.2

DRAM Voltage 1.500v .............. Set 1.66, you may need more here with 12GB, but for now keep trying with this and increase QPI/Vtt instead.   If that does not help at the max I listed above then this may need to come up, or we may need to redo your whole overclock in a different manner (Diff. CPU multi, mem multi, ect)

Don't try quickly and give up, it will take you some time and tweaking!

If you want stock settings as well let me know. I haven't played with 12GB of these modules, so not sure if they can hold the timings down with that much or not, you may need to loosen timings but I kinda doubt it as long as you tweak other things properly.

Just making sure... So my Uncore Clock Ratio should be x24 since in my case I'm using 12 gb of ram?

No, you want it at x20-22 as lsdmeasap suggested.

Always twice memory multiplier or (2x + 1).

No, uncore needs to be 2 x ram multiplier or 1-2 above that.

So in the above settings I suggested x10 memory multi, so you would use x20-22 Uncore multi

And you only mentioned Channel A when setting memory. Should I do the same for Channel B?

Select Expert and input the settings for each channel.

You need more, with 12GB at tight timings as I suggested you may need to use 1.35-1.425 QPI/Vtt

Also, you need to tell us how it fails. if there is a BSOD, fails period, ect. For BSOD's the last 3 letters of the last 0x00000000 is what we need to know)
