Overclocking with EasyTune6?

I have a new gigabyte mobo, look in my sig for complete stats on it.

I want to over clock, but I am not exactly sure where to start, although I am ready to learn, I have a tuniq tower 120, my idle temps so far are around 26-28C, and on sort of a full load, it gets up to around 47-51C. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with EasyTune VERSION 6, and if this is going to be a easy solution for me to go? It seems easy enough... Just click a button, and stress it...

Yes and No.

Yes you can use it to setup values and maybe test them however the best overclocking is done in the BIOS. Time to learn and read this thread HERE. It's a dedicated thread to this board and I own it as well.

EasyTune never worked for me other than monitoring or showing what values I had in BIOS. It's locked me up nearly 100% of the time using it. Best bet, learn by thread and try in BIOS IMHO.
What do you mean locked up on you?
I used easy tune once, to oc to 3.2ghz, but was unsure, so went back to default, and now here I am.

BTW: Love your avatar! lol

Well when I say locked up, I mean locked up.

The board wouldn't take my settings and instantly froze up causing me to hard power down the machine. Those same settings in the BIOS worked the very next time.

Software overclocking is getting better than the prior years but still there is no better way than through the BIOS. Learn the blue screens in your BIOS setup and learn to love them; they are both your friend and foe.

You shouldn't hurt too much with EasyTune however just watch your values and obey the standard OC rules of small increments and work you way up to a stable OC; don't just balls to the wall it and fry something especially on voltage.

Cheers!

My buddy just got a P45 UD3 board and is using easytune.

I always use bios setting for OC. Just how I learned the best way to do it..

But would like to hear more on this topic. And will direct him over here to check it out.
Bios overclocking is far superior. I have the UD3P also and haven't even installed EasyTune 6 yet.
Everyone says bios is better, well I am sure Gigabyte made the program so it over clocks correctly, just have to ensure its a safe OC. Stress it.
For me, just used to find out what is maximun OC on safe voltages that my comp can do. After that I put those numbers in bios manually.
You can use that program, but be warned. for many people the computer locks up and corrupts your Windows install so make sure you back everything up. The reason Bios overclocking is better is if you get a overclock failure you can clear CMOS and it resets the BIOS. You can't do that with a software overclocking program.
I read that the EasyTune rights to one of the BIOS chips, and it has two, so if it gets corrupt, it auto backs up with the second one... Thats what I read somewhere. The reason I think it was locking up for some people, was that they were using the wrong version of it, EasyTune6 is meant for my board, its not like an update, the version that comes with your board, is the version your supposed to use.

Yes, Easytune was made for people like you. (Meaning no offense), You're inexperienced with the complexities of OC'ing and that's why Easytunes exists. Others have advised you that ET's is good for checking and modifying settings but that real OC'ing is done via the BIOS. That's the common wisdom, because that's the way it is.

Your response...

For now I'd think Easytune is best for you.

Life is the teacher; Live and learn, trial and error. When you've gone as far as Easytune will take you, and you "thirst' for more. There's a whole world of information and articles online to read. It never really helps to follow others blindly.

Don't get me wrong. Easytune's a fine tool and maybe that's all you'll ever need. Good luck to you.

Thanks, I plan on learning the bios oc, but for now EasyTune will do. It gives me options as far as I want, so... ya. But I think that the 3.2Ghz setting is good to start, Ill oc and stress this weekend.
