Overclocking your PSP?

**NOTE: I'm not responsible for ANY damage caused.
NEVER EVER EVER EVER OVERCLOCK AFTER 333 = no psp
Sony has confirmed that 333 is the top you should go. **
This doesn't work on ALL psps, but it's worth a try.
First, power it on.
Hold down R1.
You should see a console like thing.
This is in short computer terms BIOS for your PSP. [Recov mode]
Note: This can never be changed back.. EVER!
Go to CPU Speed ->
XMB = Memory Card
UMD/ISO = Disc in the PSP.
They should be set as Default.
Go to the one you like, and press X.
Note: DO NOT OVER CLOCK BY MORE THAN 333MHz !! Most psps can go up to 366, but that's a battery eater..
Go back.
Press exit. [NOT TURN OFF!]
Now you should be at the main screen.
Go to the card/UMD.
The game should load a heck of alot faster.
This doesn't speed up the game play. It just reduces lag and allows things to load much faster.
For example, if im playing Vice City, mission cut scenes will take less time to load. Vehicles will appear faster, etc.

If you have any problems, let me know.

Also, when your in recov mode, don't touch much else, unless you know what you're doing.

I recommend 300.
However, if your big on performance, and don't give a dang about your battery, i'd go 333MHz tops.

PLEASE let me know how it goes!

Sony confirmed that FW 3.xx and up will run 266mhz compared to 222mhz on older firmware. 333mhz is the "stock speed" that the processor runs but sony downclocked to save battery life (UMD drive is the battery sucker)

Even then - my Slim PSP while playing FFT:WotL lasted me a good 6-7 hours before even blinking.

The PSP Slim supposedly has less battery life than the Phat/Original, so the Original could even last longer.

I'll probably use it - thanks for the extremely negative input though -.-
Always love the new, not-so-nice members.

And @hellisforheroes, basically the PSP doesn't -always- run at the clock speed mentioned all the time, and changes depending on the usage after turning it on. This will lock that clock speed so it doesn't change. The gains from doing so will probably be very very small.

"Optimized" is not the operative word..."acceptable" is more appropriate. One of the early digs on the PSP was how ridiculously short the battery life was. I think the prevailing wisdom at launch was four hours between recharges...absurd for a portable device. And even this short time span was achieved my lowering the clock to its current speeds...the original default clock would not even provide that much time.
