P45 Vs SLI

I was planning on getting a DFI p45 mobo and then i thought about SLIing two 9800 GTX...But obviously p45 don't support SLI, and I've heard that the SLI boards don't compare to a p45s. Should i just totaly forget about my SLI dream and go for the p45 and later on crossfire? or go for the SLI?

P45's overclocking ability overrules SLI imho. But if you are set on SLI a 780i chipset isn't THAT bad.
Actually, there's been a patch so P45 motherboards can support SLi.

For P45 get the king Gigabyte. Also i head that you can get hacked driver for P45.P35,X48,X38 Basicaly non nvidia chipset to work in SLI.

This is a hack not a patch, but who care's if it works
Mmm I'd rather have the better OCing ability and can anyone confirm if theses hacks are good or not?

Well i have not tried it myself but from what they say is that the SLI will work just like in a SLI MB. It all a matter of compatibility.

Bluedevil, a mod on here says the hacks are legit.

He's running SLI (I'm sure) on a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P.

That's the thread where I got the information from. Apparently it worked for him, so I don't see why it wouldn't work for an identical P45 chipset.

OO yah I PMed ghost awhile ago about this..Since hes doing cross fire now. I wanted to see if he had problems.

But i defiently thinking about just going ATI....Seems less annoying in this situation at least.

Would you consider EVGA 750i FTW for 2-ways SLI?

I can overclock my Q6600 to stable 3.4Gz.

I don't know how much more of an overclock you're going to get from that Q6600, but I know my board can handle up to 525FSB.

The way I see it, the 7x0i should be able to hit the same FSB/clock as where you are now, so go ahead and get SLI. It will make more difference than running the same clock with the same card (just like you are now)

I've been looking at EVGA, XFX, And asus. But so far newegg has had mix results and not many people here have vouched for theses boards.

Yah, What board do you think i should get for SLI.

I'm perfectly satisfied with my 780i FTW and it can do good FSBs (I've only used a Q6600 once on this board and got 3.4GHz)

I would say grab a 750i FTW or the 780i FTW.

Was 3.4 the max you could get? Somone else told me that got 4ghz on a 790i, so i guess theses boards can handle a quad : D

I've got a 750i FTW and while it was difficult to get my q9550 stable at 3.4GHz, I'd rather have SLI then another 400mhz of CPU overclock. If all you do is game I think that SLI is the better choice as it gives you more options for GPUs.
The chip just wouldn't get anything higher without extreme voltages. I know Q6600s CAN hit 4.0GHz but it takes crazy voltages.

790is are perfect for quads IMO. If you can justify getting the board AND DDR3 by all means get it, you WON'T regret it.

I dont know about that...
If you're going to go for a new board AND ddr3 you might as well get an X48 board since the chipset doesn't run into the 60-70*C range.

But OP, it all comes down to wanting SLI or not. If you want it a 780i would be fine if you dont want to squeeze every last mhz out of your chip.

I just bought new ram so the 970i is out and it costs a lot. Idk I'm going to have to really think about it. Thanks for all the info/input guys.
