Which is best? My budget is < $150 and these are the two best looking ones..

I've heard the P5K is an overclocking machine, but how are the capabilities on the gigabyte?

Also, does the P5k overclock in the same capacity as the P5K deluxe?

I just put together a system for a friend with a P5K vanilla and e4300.

I was able to OC to 3050 on /with stock cooler really easy. I had to get it out the door quick so I never played around with the anti vdroop features however the rumor is they dont work on the p5k vanilla. From a bios setting of 1.425vcore I got 1.4v non load 1.35v load.

I have ordered a P5KC for my own system to go with a e2160 and will test that 1 out fully.

I would consider the GA-P35C-DS3R if you plan on keeping this computer for a while. I see that you plan on getting the Q6600 (like me) and I'm assuming you will be keeping it for a while. The GA-P35C-DS3R ($160) supports DDR3 and DDR2. Which means in the future when DDR3 becomes more affordable, you'll be able to upgrade.

As for overclocking, I have read reviews on it saying that it isn't the best OCer. The P5k will OC better.

That was my original plan, but then i realized by the time that DDR3 is both affordable and relevant, then not only will the x38 mobos be out and cheaper, but most likely be more affordable as well.

So it seems like you don't really need to get a ddr3 mobo for the time being

I know for a fact I'll never stick DDR3 in my DS3R, I'll probably have gotten an X38 board by that point. The main turnoff about the P5K vanilla for me, the ugly old pcb color. It sounds like a stupid reason but I honestly couldn't stand looking at that through my case window. lol

From all the reviews I've read, most say the DS3R is quite overclockable and has very high ratings. Really can't beat it for the price.

Kudos... Great point. Please keep me informed when you figure out what you are going to do! We're doing the same thing! I feel more at ease b/c I can save a few more dollars.

So you're planning on getting the 8800GTX? Wow, what's your budget?

Oh and also, which OS are you planning on using? And I might even go with a budget vid card. I figure by the time DX10 becomes mainstream, dx10 cards, x38 boards, and penryn will all be affordable.
