I was thinking about getting a "knockaround" Board for experiments. This board supports C2D,PD, & P4. I know it's a 945P, but I have used the P5LD2 Boards before, and they OC D805 & D930 by 1 GHz easily. What do you think?

Well the question is what CPU will you be trying to overclock. Even though its a 945P its not a bad chipset and its an Intel chipset so i wouldnt expect too many bad overclocks. If you are thinking about this Motherboard for your P805 thats fine however for Conroe i dont know how far you will go.

Thank you Enterprise1701 for your response. I think you are right, conroe performance is an unknown for the 945P. I will pass on this Board.

For Core 2 Duo, look at the Gigabyte S3 for $115 or so. Good overclocking board based on the 965P Express chipset.

I decided to go with the Board that Chozart recommended. A good price, supports all CPU's I mentioned before, and a known good performing 965P chipset. I have never used other then Asus, seems like a good Board to try Gigabyte. thank you Chozart.

1 week ago i managed to put my hand on a p5ld2 with a C2D e6400 @2,13Ghz with some ddr2 @533mhz valueram; i managed to push the fsb from 266 to 333mhz very easly, and the ram at 666mhz, but didn't go further, i guess i could achieve more, but didn't have time

The S3 is a pretty good board, and you probably will hit an FSB of 400MHz quite easily with it. With some luck, way over 400MHz <img src="/images/smilies/wink.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Wink" class="inlineimg" />
