Welcome to OCN!

First, fill in your system specs.

Second, I suggest you send the QX6850 back for a refund, buy a Q9550 and keep the leftover few hundred bucks. The reason is that 3.5 is hardly an effort justifying the extreme expense of a QX6850, especially when many Q6600s and virtually every Q9550 will go that far, or farther.

For instance, I run my Q6600 at 3.6GHz under 24x7 load.

posting an update... i got it up to 3.8 stable and goal just moved up to 4.0 flat... ONE PROBLEM still though... mem hangs or dumps when i go past 3.8 even by .01 . the settings are NOT helping of 5-5-5-15 stock and mine are at 8-8-8-24 at 3.8 CPU speed. if anyone can help please let me know in any suggestions.

Looks like you decided to keep the chip instead of getting something better.

I'd suggest you go with 400x10. I don't know how well your RAM will OC, if at all.
