I have installed 2 sticks of 1 gig Crosair PC6400 XMS2 on my P5W DH Delux mobo. When I hit tab to see the Bios post I see the memory listed as singal channel PC5300, why is that happening and how can I fix it? Thanks in advance!

Hi Abdul,

Open your computer and make certain that you have your DIMM's installed in Dimm 1 and Dimm 3 or Dimm 2 and Dimm 4.

Download CPU-z and post your CPU, Memory and SPD tabs. When you post your SPD Tabs, please post both (drop down box) Memory Slot Locations (Dimm 1 and Dimm 3 or Dimm 2 and Dimm 4)

DDR2 800 has to be set in the BIOS on some 975x boards, ours being one of them. For the ASUS P5W DH Deluxe, you can't set the memory speed, you have to set the DRAM:FSB ratio, which I believe is 5:4 by default. You can increase it to whatever ratio you want in the "Jumper Free Configuration" category in the BIOS, but make sure the ram timing and voltage is on auto unless you want to mess with that yourself. Either way, you probably won't notice much of a difference since RAM speed faster than your FSB, in theory, shouldn't do you any good.

You are correct! I had the sticks installed in 1 and 2 instead of 1 and 3. Actually with this motherboard they are called A1&A2 and B1&B2 instead of 1 2 3 4. But the same principle applies. In fact, the Asus manual confirms what you just stated.

I will download that program and let you know. Thanks!

I was able to do that manually in the jumper free configuration section, and yes I left the voltage and everything else auto. In fact, I only bumped the CPU FBS from 266 to 400 and the memory to 800MHz. I noticed that I can't push the memory past 800MHz, which is limiting my e6300 to 2.8Ghz. Is this a problem with the Corsair memory, I read in the memory section that you can't overcloack some Corsair memory is that what I am running into, or is there a way to overcloack my CPU more? Thanks for the help.

It seems that you still have them in single channel mode and in Slot 1 and 2 rather than Slot 1 and 3. Regarding overclocking your memory higher. You might need to apply +1v to your MCH and your Vdimm to 2.2v to go higher. Set your timing to 5 - 5 - 5 - 15 to test for higher speeds.

@ lonesoldier

Have you set the DRAM manually in the BIOS? Post your entire overclock BIOS settings please.

1. Yes those pictures were before swapping the dimm from slot 2 to slot 3, so yes you are correct; sorry about the confusion.

2. The voltage can be changed in ther bios where I changed memory and cpu FSB and freq, but I don't know how to set the timings, how do I do that?

Thank you so much for the help!

Ps. Here is picture of the memory tab with the memoryt listed as dual now.

i ended up going to BIOS and changing my ram to run @ 800 mhz and it is now running at 800mhz and showing up as pc6400 in the loadup screens.

i think that should be ok now. i just thought ti should have auto-detected.
