It wont give any performance gain unless configured improperly.
It only causes instablity if you have too little but need it. I currently have mine set to 150mb.
Because idleing thats what my system uses.
So all of the stuff that should go it does. But all my game data stays in ram

Thats not 100% true.
I run mine at 150mb.
And every app/game runs fine.
