Passed Prime but failed IBT

I had my 3.6 OC for about a month now, and I ran Prime for 2 days w/o fail. But now i just ran IBT and failed it, I don't know which pass cause I shut off the screen and i think it blue screened. Also I had a Early end unit for folding on some high point core. U think my OC is unstable?

Also I just ran another IBT with increased volt one notch and my temps got to 80c, ****. Thats scary.
that's ok.

Just make sure you go by Intel Burn Test to indicate stability.

Also, linpack testing is the only intensive program that will really cause your temps to be as high as they are, so it's to be accepted. You'd never load your system as hard as that.

Just make sure for 24/7 use it's under the Thermal Spec and you're good.

Will I damage the cpu if It goes to about 80 C? For like 20 min?

For 20 minutes? no. Just make sure not to accidentally leave IBT running overnight or something (assuming you don't blue-screen).

Unless your goal is to OC to run IBT 2 days of Prime 95 is stable.

I have heard it mentioned on this site that IBT is very a good tool for doing quick stability tests as it will show instability much faster than Prime95 so instead of having to check every change overnight. So you run IBT for some shorter time before trying Prime95.

IBT is intentionally insane. Since not real situation you could ever create would stress as much why is a day of it any useful measure of stability? It is not. The real test of stability is two months OC'd with out issue. The other two are just tools to help you get there.

Along the lines of Duckieho's "benchmarking is so boring" I say so is stress testing.
on the spectrum of a good stress test, where does OCCT fit compared with the mentioned Prime95 and IBT?
I rank stress test programs by the heat they produce because the more heat produced the quicker instability will shine through. IBT is number on the list because the temps are insane. I would say P95 small fft's and Orthos are about the same heat wise. The temps that will be closest to what you will see everyday is a P95 Blend Test.
I thought LINPACK included with OCCT 3.0.1 was the same as IBT. I have done some research, and it's the same thing. I guess I could have been wrong though...

I use combination of OCCT and Prime95 for my stability test. I am kind of skeptical of IBT, since I believe that it was designed for systems with stock settings with stock voltages. Sure you can BRAG about the fact that it passed IBT, but it's pretty subjective as to how to measure stability. Having said that, my system passed LINPACK with OCCT 3.0.1. The only thing I took away from the experience was seeing how high the temps could go.
