Microsoft is willing to pay publishers such as Rupert Murdoch's News Corp to delist their news websites from Google, according to reports.
Publishers, and News Corp in particular, have accused Google of "stealing" their content with services such as aggregator Google News. Indeed, Murdoch's News Corp is preparing to put up pay walls around its newspaper sites and block Google from accessing its pages, in a bid to prevent people from harvesting the content for free...

...
A source in the publishing industry has told the Financial Times that the Microsoft proposal “puts enormous value on content if search engines are prepared to pay us to index with themâ€.
“This is all about Microsoft hurting Google’s margins,†the publisher added.
Microsoft is aggressively attempting to win back search market share from Google by investing heavily in Bing. The company's search engine underwent a radical overhaul and rebranding earlier this year, while the UK version of Bing left beta earlier this month, albeit without some of the features of its US big brother...

Microsoft are doing what they've always done. They're throwing money at crap.

Fixed.

For the majority of news stories, there is no bias or slant in the reporting. I might be wrong, but Hannity, Beck, O'Reily, etc etc already have pay-sites and they have video up, not articles.

Ah, Microsoft. Late to the party. Ignored. But a rich, cheeky bastard willing and able to throw money at people so that they'll "like" him for the night so they can appear like a socialite and blend in. How very creative, suave, and reeking of desperation. Ah, Microsoft.

What you can't win by merit, you'll win by mountains of cash. Like SONY.

News Corp doesn't consist solely of Fox/Sky news. Lets not forget the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times, which are the two most popular newspapers in the country.

Yeah, sometimes i forget that. But WSJ aside, isn't most of what Fox news reports actually done by the associated press?

Almost everyone's news is from the associated press. It just depends upon which agenda each news company has and how they speculate and sensationalize.

As stated above, it has to do with the agenda of the station a bit. Many stations pick and choose which stories to report based on that agenda. Or they have commentaries based on the news, in which many of the commentators are biased or mostly one sided. The least one-sided news I can find that isn't online is NPR (national public radio). They generally leave all opinion out of the news, which is nice.

Well that's what I dont' get. The opinionated stuff that Fox has that draws its conservative viewers isn't online anyways, is it?! I thought those 'infotainment' guys had their own paysites and most of what they say on their shows wasnt transcribed for people to read later.

If that's the case then, IMO, Google loses absolutely nothing.

Popular Vote:

Obama: 52.9%
McCain: 45.7%

So:
Tell that to the other 45.7% of America.

Fox doesn't draw conservatives, Fox draws idiots. A real conservative would hate Fox news lol.

Well, they do draw a lot of idiots but I'm not trying to wade through that minefield on OCN. I definitely think that some of Fox's 'infotainment' people are idiots, but I'm not going to go as far as saying that someone who has a different view than i do is stupid.

Same thing with the Palin lovers. I'm more inclinded to think they're ******ed, but I'll let them prove it before i say anything.

I was referring to the fact that at least 50% or more of this country is conservative or has conservative values. To anyone that disagrees, look it up.

And what the liberals often do is confuse Hannity, Beck, and OReilly as news shows, when they're actually commentary. There's a big time difference and every network has them. But because they're on Fox, every show and every piece of news on FNC must somehow be tainted.

Anyway, if you don't think other news outlets are watching this, think again. These news companies need to make money to stay afloat...soon others will follow suit. It's only a matter of time.

And to whomever said the NYT is owned by News Corp, it's not.

QFT.

Other than certain portions of "Headline News", most of the stuff on the "news" channels is just commentary, a good portion of which is biased.

Oh, and it was my bad on the New York Times reference, I believe it is actually the New York Post. "The Times" that they own is a newspaper in the UK.

I know what you were referring to. I was just making light of the fact that so few people actually identify themselves as a part of the republican party. Having conservative values no longer auto-identifies you to one party.

John Stewart had video on how Fox works. They basically have one of those infotainment guys say their opinion and then the news sement comes on saying 'some people' or 'sources' are reporting ____________ and it will be exactly what the infotainment guys are saying.

So yes, FNC does get tainted by those three.

Beck: "The president is starting a communist regime and is indoctrinating our kids, They're FORCED to sing a song praising Obama!"

Fox news later that day: "Sources report that the president may be indoctrinating our children!"
