PC ram vs Console ram???

Hey, this is probably the wrong place, but I wasn't sure where to put this...

I was wondering, why is it that the X360 only needs 523mb of ram and can run high-end games while a PC with the same amount would be soon screaming for an upgrade to run high-end games? I understand PCs are a lot more complicated with the whole Windows thing goin on, but what exactly is the reason??

I'm sure there's some other things related, but on a console your running at lower screen resolutions and lower quality/resolution textures, so ~500Mb ram is enough.

and you need the bandwidth to run the OS and all of the other apps.
Dang, everyone beat me to it.

You also (on most computers) have AV software and other various programs.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Once I get my computer...complete, I will find out exactly how much memory each app/the os takes up.

You usually have more going on in PC games eg a 64 player BF2 game.

Say a Halo PC 16 player LAN game vs. a Halo Xbox 16 player LAN game: it would work fine with the Xbox's 256mb ram but you (especially the server) would need at least 512mb for it to look any good.

Because its more optimized, and the X360's ram is much, much faster than PC ram.

How fast is the X360 RAM?
xbox 360's RAM is equal to PC22,400 (a computer can get RAM up to PC8,000, i think) running at 700MHZ, it has a documented transfer rate of 22.4GB's per sec.
