PC wont wake up from sleep with 4th core unlocked

I have had my AMD Phenom II x 3 730 for some time now and love it. THe 4th core is stable and unlocked and running happily at 3.6ghz.

THe problem is that when i put the PC into sleep and then try to wake it up, it doesnt, the HDD's just make some noise then the PC restarts, this just continues

If i go into the Bios and choose normal firmware and with acc off, the PC wakes up from sleep fine but only 3 cores

WHats going on?

Does anyone else with my same gigabyte MB 790x-UD4P have the same issue?

Sounds like the fourth core is posing some problems. Not sure what exactly the problem is, but I suggest staying with 3 cores at the moment.

Try posting a thread in here. These people have a lot more experience on unlocking than me.

its the official 720 unlock thread. You may find someone with the same problem and a solution for it
anyone? i have no idea why its happening
mine does it quiet abit for some reason too but i have a diff cpu and it is 4 core i didn't unlock anything.

I think this might be a windows issue. on xp i was fine, windows 7 messed it up.

Im only overclocked to 2.9ghz
welllll, that's why AMD disabled the 4th cores on their tri's in the first place... I don't think you can necessarily fix that, but I wish you luck though

I doubt it very much if AMD tested if the CPU I have was capable of waking up from Sleep or not, they would have other testing procedures.

Still havent got this solved, thinking it may be my RAM? its just cheap generic RAM, maybe get some better RAM and it may make it work?

what do you think? or is RAM just RAM?

Are you still using RC7100 as your sig says?

The sleep issue was resolved somewhere around ver. 7127, 7137 or 7229.

I think you just need to update your version.

There's a reason the core was disabled. It's most likely because it was a quad with a defective 4th core, so they disabled it and sold it as a triple core.

Then I'm stumped... I thought that issue had gone away. I don't think your 4th core will keep the comp from wakeing. I think if it was the core, you would be dealing with more problems than not being able to wake from sleep.

Thats exactly why i cant understand it

The CPU with 4 cores is very stable and i have been pushing it pretty hard overclocked to 3.6ghz 24/7 and no issues

surely there is some easy explanation for it now waking up from sleep?

You know, this happened to me one time..

The computer was in hibernate, so I turned it off, and unlocked the core.

Turned it on, and it wouldn't wake from sleep.

My theory was that the image it saved to the RAM of the OS as it was hibernated didn't like the fact that there was a 4th core that wasn't previously there.

Not sure if this applies to you. I also couldn't get rid of it, until I reinstalled windows, where the problem went away.

so you reinstalled windows with the 4th core unlocked?

Not sure if this helps or not but, a lot of gigabyte boards have trouble waking up from sleep. My rig was never able to rouse itself with any OC whatsoever, even by raising the FSB by 1. If you google it I think you will see a lot of people are having similar problems.
you can try uninstalling the cpu driver, go to device manager, right click ont the cpu and hit uninstall, reboot and it should install the new driver
