The PC version of Colin McRae: Dirt 2 has been delayed by Codemasters so that the developers could integrate support for DirectX 11. Microsoft's new API delivers several new features some of which are used in the racing game. Yesterday PC Games Hardware already demonstrated the visual differences between DirectX 9 and DirectX 11 in Dirt 2 and now we are going to check how the performance of graphics cards is affected.

Still smooth for a 5870 at DX11 playing at about 1080p res just wish it was around 60 frames average though
Min fps is pretty good. Though yea I do wish it had a higher average. Grid ran so smoothly on ATI cards, thought it would be the same for Dirt2 since they use the same engine.
According to this.. the 5970 should be getting nearly 90s for minimum frames maxed out at 1920x1200 4xAA 16xAF. Wow. (About twice as fast as a 5870)

I wonder how good it will run on.... I won't say it.

Looks like my 5850 will handle it just fine.

It doesn't even support Crossfire yet, despite being attached to 5770s and 58xx everywhere?? I hope they get that sorted out soon. I was hoping to see dx11 in action, but with a single card, will average less than 40 fps. Dx9 for now, I guess, until they fix that.
I dont get why high end pcs dont perform too well, like an xbox 360 will play it perfectly fine without that much less detail, but pc's seem to have to be upgraded every year to keep up.

The XB360 version is being rendered at a much lower resolution, and does not look near as good. Not running much, if any AA or AF either.

Yes, I think we realised that.......
In all honesty, in dirt 2 I see very little difference between DX9 and DX11, so IMO it's not worth a card upgrade yet, especially when my 280 will still destroy the budget DX11 cards

Iv been waiting for this game since I got my 5870. I'll be doing my own eyefinity review once the game unlocks on steam. I'll be running it @ 5040x1050 in all it's DX11 glory

LOL your high end card will destroy a lower in DX11 card...Isnt that obvious if you want the DX11 goodies you are gonna get mid range to high level card, which your 280 will get destroyed by a DX11 mid range card.

I have yet to see any DX11 goodies that look any different from DX10. I'm sure in time I will, but right now, nothing special.

Consider that an Xbox run's the game at 720p or even less, like Halo 3: 1152Ã-640p.

At the Halo3 resolution the Xbox is rendering 737280 pixels. Compare that to a fairly standard PC resolution of 1680x1050 = 1764000 pixels. 2.4 X the number of pixels all with textures magnitudes higher in resolution... even an average PC is leagues above a console.

Then, we step up to 1920x1200 or higher - you get the picture.
