Over the past few weeks, both Intel and AMD have discussed their roadmaps for processors for the coming year. Since these processors will be the basis of nearly all the PCs we'll see produced in 2010, I thought now was a good time to look at what we can expect. Let's start with desktops.

Anyone else notice only DDR3 in 2010. Does that mean support for AM2+ is over? Does that mean a better DDR3 controller? Less Power Consumption?
almost a let down...wanted to see a jump straight to octocores in 2010.
I'll wait till sandy bridge to upgrade.

I'm very happy to see a continuation of x58. It's good to see intel stick with a good thing... this decision will influence my next PC purchase b/c if that socket will be relevant for a long time I will be more likely to choose it. Think of all the 6 core and 8 core processors intel could sell to current 920 owners
especially when you consider that the 920 is beat in many games by the amd 965BE.

Exactly, I'll gladly upgrade on Day1 of Core i9 release if it works perfectly with my X58. But if I had to upgrade the board as well, I'd just sit back and wait 8 months or so.

I think my 940be will last me for a long time yet.

You can just cross that sandy bridge when you get there

I look forward to AMD's 32nm 8 core CPU's, though it won't be available until 2011.
So we will have 5 core cpus unlocked to 8 cores?
Gana be waiting for AMD 8-Core CPU.

I didn't see 5 cores in there anywhere. And if there is* It will most likely be a 6-Core with a dead core, they shut it off and sell it anyways.

I doubt there will be a 5 core. Based on what we know, Bulldozer will be 4 modules with 2 "cores" each for a total of 8 cores, unless AMD starts selling chips with individual integer "cores" turned off. That would be pretty weird but interesting...

Hm? Isn't it better if they improve on a good thing?

(eg. P35 -> P45)
