Phenom 955 high temp.

3465 Views 17 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  its my first time
Bought phenom 955 3.2 GHZ 2 days ago ....still having the stock fan, i tried prime 95 without OC to get the max load ... the temp. is above the limited temp. 62 C said by AMD site for the processor on both 3.2 and 3.4 GHZ .... on idle i get 41 C , closing both Cool and quite and smart fan control

is it wrong to get the temps above 62 C ?! shouldn't the stock fan help the processor not reaching the limits ? ....what's the best cooler to buy for AM3 processors ?

Thats normal, best cooler for an AM3 processor is Megahelms.
My 550BE with all 4 cores unlocked @3.4Ghz(basically the same as yours) and stock voltage and stock cooler hit 64c during a 6+ hour prime95 run today. Stayed at 61-64 for a couple hours at least. I don't see any problems with it, but I'm not completely comfortable with it either. The way I see it, if it doesn't cause any instability it is fine.

When my CPU is loaded with tasks [thru a Sony Vegas render, though I really haven't any time to run Prime95], temps hit 62 degrees at 3.8ghz with the stock cooler [combined with the cold winterish ambient in my house]. I'm a bit worried because I'm not sure whether the max for the Ph.II 965 is 62 or 65 degrees, but nevertheless, it's quite stable...

I disabled this overclock though because lately my house ambient temps have risen.... oh well, I hope to hit 4ghz or higher when I get that Dark Knight

Speaking of which, the S1283V Dark Knight is one of the best coolers around for AMD; lightweight & easy installation and great cooling performance! However I think it will only mount up-down so this is best used with a case with top fans.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but I've been searching for temps people get to compare to mine.

How the hell can people get temps like that

I can't get that on water.

Why are there so many people who get these miraculous temps on air, what are your secrets, you're either lying or your sensors wrong.

I just can't beleive it.

Don't worry - I wonder the same, but it has to come down to one of the 2 above.

Either that, or they have ambients lower than 5C.

lol I sometimes open my window and my ambient drops to about 14c, I get great temps but it gets damn cold though

Yeah, I know. I opened the windows and let -5C air in, while I was running Small FFT's in Prime : went down to 41C (from 57C) in 4 minutes, but I was freezing my @ss off, so I closed them.

Also, I wasn't running push/pull at the time, and this was on my FZ120 I had at the time.
52C Prime95 on a 20.00 air cooler. Those are watercooled temps, it's not like there aren't others that work with the 955 BE, it's pretty well understood what temps they run at and what you have to do to get 52C, put me in the "proof or it didn't happen" group.

Yup Pyra.. Something is not right there. bad sensors or plain exaggerating.

I will say this. At 1.6V I run mid 30's idle and 50 load with my cooling. I put my rad outside windoe in 20 dgrees F. and run 23 idle 43 load.. It's nice!

Jimi you really have to change your Avatar. Dhaltry looks so 'bad off" it makes me want to send a "get well' card
That is Roger Dhaltry is it not?
