The E8400 will outperform the 9850 in just about any benchmark, overclocked or stock.

I think an AMD runs smoother or more seamless than Intel processors. Regardless of benchmarks and such. I am happy with my Intel build, but I do miss the fluidity of my old AMD setup. I hope the new Core I7's are like the AMD's in that aspect. I think it is the mem controller that makes the difference. The AMD does better in everyday computing, but not in gaming, video editing and such. I would wait and see if the new AMD and Intel offerings make significant improvements on an already proven design. Make your choice after that.
