Hi guys. I'm having problems reaching 4Ghz on my 945 Phenom. I managed to get it to 3.6 using fsb of 300 and multiplier x12 with auto voltage of 1.392 but that is as far as it goes. I tried for 4ghz with 15x267, 14x286, 13.5x300 with voltage of 1.375, not auto. It either crashes or freezes at loading windows. The HT was set at ~2400 and rams at 1666. I'm pretty sure i've got the wrong timings on the ram so i'm asking for your advices.

I was afraid of going auto voltage on 4Ghz cuz it might draw too much power and "cook" itself

. I am though running on a FZ120 cpu cooler so i guess ill try that voltage.

Currently i am running on optimized settings only the ram is at 1066 and the voltaj is 1.25 instead of auto. The RAM:FSB ratio is 3:8 at the moment and i was wondering how and what value should that ratio be.

Thanks

Generic 1333 CL9 RAM, may be holding you back

and you had 3.6 with 1.392v but you tried 4ghz with only 1.375v ?
as xd 1771 would say, you're doing it wrong.
I think...this

I wouldn't overclock too far on that mobo either, knowing it to be a 4+1 power phase with low quality & known problems - and the 945 C2 is a 125W to begin with

My CPU is of 95W tdp according to these 2 programs and the shop which i bought it from.
And my mobo is a weak one?

Sad to hear that

Btw, i'm not gonna keep it 24/7 at 4ghz, i just want to "leak every drop of water off of it" in some benchmarks. But if it isn't possible, i understand.

i hope i can help
smile.gif

try this:

up the cpu volts to 1.5
up the fsb to 268
drop the ram divider by one notch,
up the ram volts if necesary, mines takes quite abit of volting to be stable, you may be more lucky.
run some tests, drop cpu volts if poss, the up your cpu-nb volts and divider.
let me know if you encounter any trouble.

3.6 is a nice easy one if 4 isnt possible, then you can milk the cpu-nb for all its worth

240 fsb,1.3v cpu,
leave ram divider and up the volts to the ram a touch,
give that cpu northbridge a spanking!

Useless screenshot is useless.
Turn off C'n'Q. The old Phenom II 945 is 125w. The motherboard you have is not the best for overclocking, I would recommend going max 3.8Ghz @ 1.45v

Ok guys. Thanks for all the advices. One more question regarding the CPU temps, even though i made another topic a few months ago i'm still not sure what are my real temps of the cpu, the cpu core temps being about 10 C degrees lower than the CPU temp. In full load with prime95 the temps are about 40-45 core temps and 50-54 cpu temp. In idle 25-30 and 35-40.

62'c max on the cpu

55'c max on the core

after that it will become instable

mine wont go past 4.1ghz on this mobo but i can bench at 4ghz NB with ambient temps.
total waste of time due to having 800mhz ram that wont go past 910mhz though!

If i couldnt get 4ghz i would lower the cpu till its stable then give the CPU-NB more attention,by far the most tangible reward for overclocking.

These chips need a lot of voltage

I was stable at 3.8Ghz on 1.45v, with timings closest to stock as I could on RAM, but would start getting errors after passing just a few seconds on prime95, even though my temps were only hitting 50C. The higher the OC, the more likely you'll get an unstable chip, even if you were hitting temperatures you were before.

I hate that my GPU can be overclocked stable till 950/1300 and this CPU can't even reach 4ghz without 1020303432 trials.

Ill give it a go at ~1.45 and see how high i can go on the frequency. Thanks.
