Hey All!

My son just purchased a Microcenter mobo/cpu combo deal with a Phenom II X4 840 processor and Asus M4A88TD-V EVO motherboard. While we both have a fair amount of experience OC'ing Intel processors, neither one of us has any experience with AMD processors.

My question is, what is a good VID for that processor. Ours is 1.284v. I'm thinking this is a relatively low VID and should be a good start for OC'ing. Yes? Thoughts?

edit:
Also, what kind of OC can we expect should we decide to overclock?

Yep, that's not too bad.... it should give you some headroom to OC with....

I'd think it would be comparable to other Athlon II quads, since that's what it really is (despite the Phenom II moniker).... your results may vary, but 3.6-3.8 is fairly doable....

Cool Beans.... I was hoping that we could get 3.4-3.6ghz without too much trouble. From what little I read, the 1.284v VID seems pretty low.

We shopped our i7 cpu's by batch number, considering we were absolutely going to overclock them, plus they cost a bunch more than this AMD cpu

Do we have a thread (on OCN) for VID's or batch numbers of AMD processors?
