PhII 550 unlocked question

370 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Zeifer
I have my CPU unlocked running 3 cores at 3.6ghz at 1.408v. The wierd thing is the core that becomes unstable when going to 4 cores is the second core (aka: one of the cores that came stock). What would cause a good core to go bad when unlocking? What settings do I need under ACC? I see the percentages but don't know what they do, so I leave it at auto.

Thanks in advance

The cores sometimes are locked for a reason due to being faulty from the start. you might of just got a bad chip. And try +2%

Have you tried getting the CPU stable at stock with 4 core before starting to overclock?

Ok, Will try. But the second core was the one failing. As in, Core 1 and 2 were unlocked from the beginning and 3 and 4 were locked. Now I run 1,3 and 4.

@zealot Yes, but I never tried that +2%. I'm trying now.

so in other words your cpu is duff. If it is one of the original cores that is stuffed.

Try using -2% on the "broken" core....that core only has to run stock clocks and stock voltages well

I'd opt to run a higher clocked triple core vs a lower clocked quad core so let us know what happens

I think I'm gonna keep it at 3 cores. I can get it stable barely at stock. I'll see how much farther I can push these three core. I got .1v that I'm willing to go farther and about 10-15C temp wise. Thanks for the help everybody.

Are you sure it was core 1 and 2? For all you know it could have been cores 1&3 which were unlocked at stock. Since it was locked down to a dual core they would then become cores 1&2. I'm pretty sure there is no control over which of the 4 physical cores becomes faulty.

I'm sure because my BIOS allows me to manually enable or disable individual cores. At stock only 1 and 2 are enabled. Also, core 2 is stable as long as 3 or 4 aren't enabled. It's really wierd.
