I'd go with the 720 because you can unlock the 4th core and keep that unlocked multiplier (if your motherboard supports ACC, or Advanced Clock Calibration)

What are your main priorities when using a computer?

Some of the "fourth" cores are truly faulty, so its pure luck if you get one that performs or not. The 720 will perform great in games and will overclock great. The 810 will be decent at multitasking and will also overclock decently.

With the PC you have, either one would not provide a huge increase in gaming FPS. Your best bet is to get another two gigs of RAM and a new video card/monitor. If you did go the AMD route, assuming you're a gamer, the 720 would be better, as it has a higher cache share per core.

No, no no no no no...
Do you ever hear a doctor recommend you to go into a surgery with a 50% survival rate on something like getting an ingrown toenail removed? This is just stupid.. I can see where people are coming from here, but you just don't recommend people an unstable option if there are perfectly viable stable options being considered by the OP. Phenom II's OC well enough as is, there's no reason to get a BE and 'hope' that the 4th core is good. Get the quad if you want a quad, get the tri if you don't want the quad. Simple as that.

another vote for 720be. it will be better in games. the 810 is just a cheap quad for multitasking purposes, but not that far from the 720be.

i would say pick up the 720be its a overclocking monster and performs awesome in games, the unlockable 4th core can be a plus i would say just dont get your hopes up for it being unlockable.
i thought that was only on amd chipsets im going with nvidia chipset

its is only on amd chipsets, was not aware that you where sticking with nvidia. but none the less the 720be is the better choice for gaming. if you where planning on video encoding and such the 810 would be the better choice.

i do CAD, listen to music, fold cpu and gpu and surf the web and game.
get a 920 instead. it has more cache and it's about the same price as the 810.

or this 940be from tiger is a huge steal:

Dude, it's $15.
Show me your entire build and I'm sure I can squeeze the 940 in there, and you will be amazingly more happy.

the bigger cache was the clincher for me when i picked out my processor. Why go with an AM2+ when you can kinda future proof with an AM3 processor.
there is not that much of a difference between 4mb vs 6mb.
