Picked up a 720 today

1305 Views 30 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  SilverPotato
I just got back from Microcenter with my new 720. Should I burn it in for a bit or go straight to overclocking

EDIT: Special Thanks to keenan, rewind, and zealot (and a few others) for helping me get my X3 720 unlocked and to the speeds of an X4 810

First thing you need to do is check if it unlocks to a quad !!!!!

You are following guides right?....what voltages have you tried?

I tried -2% and it won't unlock all the cores

This is on stock 1.3V and 2.8GHz

Do you have the latest bios..?

Remember..

Set Advanced Core Calibration to "AUTO" and change "EC Firmware" mode to "Hybrid"

sometimes it needs more voltage to unlock, mine can at 1.4v but rather keep temps down a bit

Overclock it to max if you got only 3 core to make up for the 4th core.
Looks like I got all 4 cores @ 2.8GHz :O

Isn't stable though
Add

0.100V on the CPU
0.100V on the CPU NB.
0.100V on the NB
0.100V on the SB

That should help

How can I test the stability?
Boot into windows and run prime95 on blend

You will need to add voltage to get this baby going so keep us updated on the exact settings in your bios and how the stability testing works out

When you can go into Prime95 for at least an hour we are gettign somewhere

Keep in mind to be running everything else other than the core clock at stock and stable clocks/voltages

Failed to stay stable with 4 cores @ 3.8GHz

And @ 3.7GHz

However 3 cores boots with 3.8GHz

3.8Ghz is too much for a first overclock. Try to get it stable @ stock with 4 cores and more up 200Mhz. I got one @ 3.2Ghz unlocked with 1.375v

I've gone up in 200MHz steps from 2.8GHz and seemed to have stopped where I am

Prime95 crashes with 4 cores @ 3.7GHz 1.6V
3.6ghz would be your max I'm afraid...

I've had the same cpu and with 3 cores I got 3.9Ghz stable and 4 cores only 3.6ghz

Try 200 x 18 with 1.55V
