Planning my first loop =)

Hey guys, I'm going to finally get my feet wet in the next few weeks, and I wanted some advice from you guys.

Here's what I've got picked out:

Radiator: Black Ice GTX 360
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/53...?tl=g30c95s161

Waterblock: Watercool HEATKILLER CPU Rev3.0 775 LT (I'd like the copper one, but I can't seem to find it for the 775 socket)
http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/heatkillerlt775.html

back plate: http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/hk775plate.html

Pump: Swiftech MCP355 12v DC Pump
http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/swiftechmcp355.html

with XSPC Laing DDC Acetal Top
http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/xsladdcactop.html

Reservoir: Swiftech MCRES 2.0
http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/swmcmire2re.html

Barbs: 8x DD Fat boys 1/2
http://www.jab-tech.com/Dangerden-FB...b-pr-4181.html

Tubing: 15ft (I've heard 10-15 ft to be safe, I don't want to mess up and run out of tubing, but is this too much?) Primoflex 7/16 ID UV Red
http://www.jab-tech.com/PrimoFlex-Pr...D-pr-4424.html

Primochill antikink Coils 5/8
http://www.jab-tech.com/PrimoChill-A...k-pr-4001.html

I've already got high speed 120x25 yate loons, and I'm going to hold out for the lamptron fc 5 to match my haf 932, unless you guys can show me a fan controller that matches just as well. I've also got to grab some worm clamps...are there any special ones out there, or will the ones at home depot do just as well?

What do you guys think? Eventually I'm going to add a GPU block to this loop, but a new GPU will come first, hopefully a 5870 =D Will this loop be able to handle a GPU block somewhere down the road?

Thanks =D

Edit: I finally found a copper HK at least listed, but it's out of stock, and I'm not sure if it's worth the extra money anyway

Yeah, that stuff should work. Overclocking?

Why don't you go here (see Martin's stuff too) and do some calculations?

The only place I've seen the 775 socket HK 3.0 in copper is in the UK, on sites like this:

http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/cata...oducts_id=1694

It should be able to handle the 5870 when you get it, I run a 360 rad with low CFM fans and am able to efficiently cool my superclocked 260 and my i7 with temps in the low 30's for idle, and 60C load. I'm sure that rad will handle it, and if not you can always throw a 240 rad somewhere in the mix if your case allows for it.

Most everything else looks great, but I would suggest getting these barbs instead:

http://www.jab-tech.com/Bitspower-Tr...1-pr-4397.html

Edit: you linked the fittings twice, once for the fittings and once under the tubing.

The only other advice I can give is to spend a bit more money and get compression fittings instead of the bitspower, only reason I say that is because I had the same 7/16" Inner Diameter tubing that you linked, and found it difficult to clean out my loop. Even though the tubing fits snugly onto the barb being 1 size smaller and not necessarily requiring clamps, the tubing must stretch to fit onto the fitting and not to mention how hard it is to pull off of the fitting, but once it is stretched out.. you may feel the need to put clamps on to secure the tubing to the fitting.

Instead of that reservoir and pump top, why not get this combined top/reservoir instead?

I fixed that link.

Why do you say to go with the bitspower over the fatboys? I was planning on going with the clamps anyway, it's just that I figured the tighter tubing would be that much less likely to leak.

Are there other advantages to going with compression fittings rather than barbs, other than the bling factor? I definitely like the looks of them, but I was under the impression they were more than twice as expensive....If you had to recommend specific compression fittings, which ones would you go with?

I'll look into that top/res combo...I just want to make sure everything will fit alright in my case. I figured if I could mount the res just anywhere, I would have more flexibility, and I was worried that if it was attached to the pump that I might be more limited in pump placement. But then again, it might just make things simpler.

I was under the impression that the XSPC rad would not perform as well as the Black Ice GTX. Even though my initial loop will only cool a CPU, I want to have the option to add another block down the road. If I'm going to spend this much money, I want the rad to perform really well.

Alright, I think I'm going to change my tubing to 1/2 and go with the bitspower compression fittings in matte black. Also, I like the idea of saving money on the reservoir by going with that top/res combo

http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/xsacreforlad.html

Is there any disadvantage to going that route?
Might be a little bit harder to bleed out air, but you get a bit more performance gain from the res top.
Yah, to bleed the res, you need to stick something flat between the inlet tube and the suction hole so the bubbles don't get sucked straight back into the res - the MCres, on the other hand, makes bleeding a breeze - seriously just plug and let it sit for a couple hours and all the bubbles will work themselves out.

Also, 15 feet isn't too much if you're going to add stuff in later - also if you mess up (very possible even for seasoned veterans), it's nice not to have to put your project on hold waiting for tubing. Also, using the mcres will make your loop a little more versatile in case you want to shift things around.

The rad is good for now with the Yates but if you're going to add the 5870, you might consider getting stronger static pressure fans (san ace, panaflos, etc.). Other than that, everything looks good.

All you need to help bleed an XSPC res top is an elongated L piece of aluminum foil. For a once yearly thing it's not too much of a PITA:

is the shape you need.

How much/what kind of a performance gain will the res top give me? The foil thing doesn't sound like a big deal, but I need to plan out exactly where I want everything, I guess, since I'm up in the air about the flexibility of putting my res wherever.

Also, do you guys recommend just getting a silver coil, or buying pt nuke? Is there any difference? Will the silver ever stop working?
I have a thread I can link to you when I get on my computer, typing this on my phone, but I can link you to a thread with a bunch of watercooling setups inside the HAF932 so you can get some ideas of what parts to go with based on placement. You can look at my thread titles "my loop pics were wayyy overdue, nonetheless...", sorry can't link it from my phone but you can see how I did my internal loop using basically the parts you originally listed and get an idea of how the compression fittings will look.
The res-top vs the regular xspc top is only like a .3-.5 liter/min gain according to similar parts on martin's spreadsheet. That's about a 4-5% increase in flow (approximently depending on the accuracy of the sheet of course) so it's not a huge deal. I just like that I don't have to mount a separate reservoir, and also save some money at the same time (though not much).

I use a pure silver system with 4 tru-silver barbs and the 12" kill coil from jab-tech. I've had no problems whatsoever with my loop as far as microbial growth. CuSO4 is pretty nasty stuff so I'm happy I don't have to deal with it. However, it works wonders and will keep a loop clean when used properly. It's not like a couple drops is going to kill you! Also, silver will never stop working in your lifetime.

Well I figured a few drops wouldn't hurt, but if that's one less thing I have to buy, then I'd rather go that way. Will just the 12 inch coil be alright? Or the 8? How much do I need?

As I said, 4 Tru-Silver Barbs and the 12in strip works fine for me. I don't know the exact chemistry for how high the ppm of Ag ions has to be in a loop to prevent growth. Empirical evidence points to at least a couple barbs and the 12in strip as being plenty though.
