Please Review My First Stab at a Low-Mid Range FX-6300 Build

Hi All,

So I've made my first stab at a budget low to mid range FX-6300 build for gaming and web development. Unfortunately I really don't know enough to distinguish between good brands, various models, etc, so I've built this off of various posts I've read and basic guesswork. Please critique the overall combination of components and feel free to suggest alternates for any of them.

All of the components are from NewEgg as I've had good experiences with them in the past. The prices reflect the various discounts and I think shipping is free for all items. Unfortunately the total is coming in at $762, which is well over my $600 target. Where can I trim some fat off this build? I don't want to sacrifice too much performance though, but I might be able to stretch the budget to $650 if I have to.

As for games the only one I play right now is Battlefield 3 on xBOX, but I'd like to play the PC version on high settings and get into Planetside 2. I'd also like a setup that will be able to handle games decently for the next few years. On the webdev side I won't be doing much, if any, video or audio editing or anything like that. I'd also like to overclock as well.

Basically I want a pretty decent, reliable and somewhat future-proof system at as low a cost as possible (as close to $600 or under as possible).

Here's a list of parts I have available to cannibalize to help save costs:

Case: Antec 902 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129097
PSU: Antec SP-450 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817103936
ODD: HP DVD1140 w/Litescribe - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827140032
External HDD: WD Mybook Essential 1TB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136747
OS: Win7 32bit Home
Monitors: Dell 20" and Viewsonic 17"

I figure I can use the case, ODD, External HDD, OS and Monitors. I doubt the 450w PSU would suffice for the new system.

Here's the new build:

MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard, Model #:GA-970A-UD3, $94.99

GPU: SAPPHIRE 100354OC-2L Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card, 100354OC-2L, $224.99

PSU: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 V2 650W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power, CP-9020038-NA, $89.99

CPU: AMD FX-6300 Vishera 3.5GHz (4.1GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 95W Six-Core Desktop Processor FD6300WMHKBOX, FD6300WMHKBOX, $139.99

RAM: Kingston HyperX Black Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model KHX16C9B1BK2/8, $42.99

Storage (SSD): SAMSUNG 840 Series MZ-7TD120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD), MZ-7TD120BW, $94.99

CPU Cooler: CORSAIR Hydro series H50 High Performance CPU Cooler, CW-9060006-WW, $59.99

Total: 762.00

Whatch'all think?

No need to get a corsair TX series PSU. CX600w for $30 less http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028
Get a Hyper 212 EVO if you are low on funds. Easily the best price/performance cooler ever. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099
You could save 90$ by using your old 450 Watt, it should be able to power that system. Until you start overclocking a lot, or adding a second Video Card, you should be good. Another place to save is the cooler, just get a Hyper 212 Evo, like Legonut suggested. Everything else looks good.
I just did it for $672 here after rebates.
If 650 is a firm number drop the hyper 212 and bob's your uncle.
I went with a 500 watt power supply. It should be under 400 watts, but a bit of headroom is nice. And to be honest I know nothing about the antec 1 you already own.
If you still find the budget tight, Even though I love SSD's, You might be better off dropping it and going mechanical. Then save up you money for a 250gb one.

Oh, and if your windows is 32 bit it will only recognize 4gbs of ram.
Qycc has a good point - your current PSU could suffice. Although I really like my Corsair PSU it's actually only rated at 430 watts and my overclock right now ranges between 4.6 - 4.8 ghz

got my gpu o.c.'d at 1050 mhz and ram to 1600 with no problem. But I did just notice that old PSU has two 12V rails instead of a single 12V rail....find a single rail modular Corsair on the cheap and your good to go. I would def add a HDD and partition it as a backup and media drive. Def put windows on a SSD though it works out pretty well. Liquid cooling is overrated if you can get a good aircooler for cheaper do it.
