Alright well im having trouble figuring out what to get for a X-MAS present from me to me. My computer is on 24/7 and i am really into folding so im definitely going with Nvidia. Ive narrowed it down to a few things, (SLI) 9800GTX, 9800GX2 and the 260 core 216. I know the 9800GX2 has problems with microstuttering but ive heard that it gets up to 10K ppd. Ive you submit your poll please elaborate why you picked that card below. Thanks! *JaKe*

Folding on a 9800GX2 is slightly more difficult than you'd think... yes, it puts out around 10K ppd, but you'll need to disable SLI, and there goes your performance with the 9800 GX2...

I'd recommend the GTX 260 Core 216...

I second the 260 216 ;]

Runs nice and cool, I idle at 35c with 50% fan speed, load at 55 70%...
They overclock well and you can always SLI in the future..
Oh and you can easily get 7000+PPD..

If i disable it cant i re-enable it without rebooting windows?

Yeah, the GTX 260 Core 216 is your best bet, especially seeing as the 9800 GX2 can only get 10K PPD with SLI disabled and using two clients, the GTX 260 Core 216 should get at least in the mid 6K PPD, maybe 7K. Yes you can turn SLI on and off using software only.

Yeah, it's pretty quick.

The 9800gtx sli is usually the fastest in games, but for folding, the gtx260 is best because you don't have to deal with sli.

9800GX2 is better for folding.

Well eventually i plan on SLI or TRI-SLI (since my mobo supports it). It would be a pity not to since i have the third PCI-E slot.

actually, if you're going to SLI the 9800GTX+ then you're better off with that than the 9800GX2. as two 9800GTX+ > one 9800GX2. well for folding anyhow.
if you don't mind dealing with the whole turning off and on SLI. you would have to do the same for the GX2 also. if you're talknig single cards, then the 260 wolud be your best bet.

edit: i just saw the post about the shortcut to turn on and off SLI. if its that easy, go with the 9800GTX+s

Well the refurb EVGA 9800GX2's are like $230, another question, technically could i have 3 and be able to enable/disable SLI without my pc exploding? As in folding on 3 and then being able to quit the clients, enable SLI and not be set a-fire?

My PSU is the heart of the Atom bomb.
