I have been asked to try and fix a Laptop. Tho this is not anything near my specialty as for working on PC's (Networking by trade). I was told that this particular laptop was literally smoking. This leads me to believe something has burned out. The question comes if it is the motherboard, graphics or what not can these be replaced? Is it possible to get something like a H67 series board to put in one?

I do not know that this is and this may just be a case of laptop into garbage, then tell the guy to get a new one.

Sometimes you can find cheap laptop parts on eBay. If you go direct to the manufacturer for the mobo, you'll find that the amount they want is probably more than a new laptop will be. HP wanted $679 for my old HP 8000 laptop mobo. I bought a new laptop for $699 instead.
