Chances are probably not since it is a mobile chip I know most mobile chips (except the intel XM series such as the i7 3930XM) cannot be overclocked. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I've heard/ have understood.
Thanks for the reply. Only reason i wanted to know it was to increase performance because i would like to play Battlefield Bad Company 2. Some are playing this gameon my crappy PC with decent fps( atleast for me; Gfx card intel X3100: mobile intel express family chipset 965) but the thing is i would be able to enjoy this game but when i set the resolution from the config file any lower than 1024x768 it automaticly resets itself. But in the video i saw people playing on 640x400. So is there any way to force resolution below it.
You could try forcing the resolution by adding xres=640 yres=400 at the end of the shortcut target box.Originally Posted by ESTtroll

Did not work :S but your help is appreciated
Alright, with a quick googling I may have found a solution. If you go to your My Documents folder and find the BFBC2 folder there should be a settings.ini file there, open this file in notepad. At the top of this file there is Width and Height with values beside them, change the Width value to 640 and the Height to 400, save this file and trying opening the game again. Hopefully this works, but according to other posts on the page I found it there is mixed results, so give it a try and let me know, I'll see what else I can find.
Thanks for the answer but this is exactly what i have already tried. The resolution stays on 640x400 for about 10 seconds and then resets itself. Thanks for support. Really appreciated.Originally Posted by Jj333 33

EDIT: Also read on this page that the intro movies play at a different resolution, so you may have to check the resolution in-game to see if it actually works.
Well, I can't seem to find any other method, everybody seems to say to try what I posted above, that you already tried. I did read though about people having the same problem as you and one of them said that if he tried using 800x600 resolution instead of 640x400 it worked. Give that a shot, you won't get as good of performance as you would from the lower resolution but it will still be better than the 1024x768 resolution. I also read that this method (using the 640x400 resolution) used to work until a patch, and now it doesn't work, not sure which patch, it wasn't specified.
K greatest thanks.Originally Posted by Jj333 33

I've never overclocked on a integrated graphics processor before, but I did find a thread here on OCN that has a few options, with links in the posts to programs, you could try them. One thing you have to worry about when overclocking though is make sure you have adequate cooling because I imagine at stock it probably already gets pretty hot in high graphic games, so just insure you have good cooling (you could always get a laptop cooling pad as well). I would recommend using a tool such as Core Temp or RealTemp for monitoring temperatures (both are free and can be easily found by searching on google). According to Intel's site that cpu is rated for 100 C max but I would be wary of nearing that temperature; I would recommend a max of probably 80-85 C.
I have tried power strip 3.9 but for some reason it wont let me change advanced timing optionsOriginally Posted by Jj333 33

Ok I looked into overclocking IGP's more and although some say it possible, they say it's almost pointless for the gains it will produce vs the extra heat it will produce (apparently around 2-3% with a substantial increase in temperatures). As for Power Strip I downloaded and installed to see what the program was about, and I myself couldn't figure how to overclock with the program, I found the performance profiles where it shows the clock speed (and memory clock if applicable) and it also doesn't allow me to change settings. I don't know if it means that these IGP's are unoverclockable or just this software won't allow it. I also took a look at the GMABooster in that thread and it doesn't seem to provide a download for your x3100, it shows it but it links to the current page and not to a download page. And AFAIK programs such as msi Afterburner don't detect IGP's only dedicated cards. The end result might be that you can't overclock it, but it's probably not a big deal since it apparently won't make much of a difference anyways.

Your welcome, and sorry I couldn't find the best solutions for your problem(s).

And yup saving money is key, that's what I did to make my sig rig, I came from an Acer Aspire with Intel Core 2 Duo and crappy Intel GMA 950, got barely 20-30fps in NFS Carbon on lowest settings/resolution; it was a big jump for me.
EDIT: Thanks for rep![]()
If you are not playing online you could use an older patch, the only problem with that is that there may be some glitches that have been now fixed that you will still have. I can't pinpoint exactly what patch caused the resolution issue, but I might have a good idea of which one it could be. On one of the forums of someone having the same problem as you the person said it was a new patch and his post was on April 21, 2010; so I searched for a patch from around that date and found one called "Patch Client R8 / Server R12" not sure if this is right but you can try patching to something before this (may have to uninstall and reinstall then patch for it to work). Hope this helps.
