I was looking at prices for mobile phones on contract carriers and I looked at them as complely nuts. A phone for the same price as a laptop? Maybe buy a phone add a bluetooth theather to a tablet or laptop and you have a better system.

Funny how people need 7 inch screen quad core battey eatting phone while I had a flip phone until 2010 and loved it. Granted I could not get on the net 24/7 but that was okay. Now I got a smart phone and really dislike the way it eats battery life and how people want me to like this on phase book. I just like the smartphone that I can listen to a book on the train, play spades, and do simple websearch. I do not need to have something more powerful than my laptop in my hand.

You cannot even see porn that well on a phone unless you have one of those stupid 7 inch phones. I thought we got rid of brick phones in the 1980s.

I do not see the reason for all these crazy smartphones at this time maybe someone can tell me useage since I have been in the Middle East too much to really care about techie things and I am actually doing the things that people make video games out of.

Had two tewnty something kids run into me and had to rush and save a 30 something woman from getting hit by a firetruck because she had her head in her dang Ipohne while crossing the street.

Just because you don't like or think its dumb it doesn't make it wrong or stupid. I'd rather have a cheaper computer and a nicer phone than an expensive computer and a flip phone. Even cheap computers are decent enough for my usage (mainly storage). Trying to do anything on a cheap or old or slow phone on the other had is incredibly frustrating.

I guess we like to customize. Desktop PCs can be built to spec in all kinds of ways, whereas mobile phones come as is and you can't really modify the hardware with ease.

Still not a single dent, scratch, or screen crack, and it's been thrown at brick walls and off desks countless times. Also, it still handles a week without charging

That makes sense I guess. Still though I enjoy technology regardless of whether or not it's customizable.

Well with my smart phone, HTC one, I can do everything a tablet/laptop could do for the most part.

Watch videos, listen to music, open/edit pdf/office files, surf the web. There really isn't a need for a laptop/tablet imo if you have a good smartphone. Add to that it only cost $199 and its not a bad deal.

And I'm not sure what you mean by the prices are nuts. $200 isn't bad for an all-in-one device. If you buy a $200 laptop it is going to be a piece of crap.

Is that with a contract? Because it retails for 600$.

OCN has traditionally been a performance computing forum, mobile stuff for the most of us is something to use, not something we obsess over, not our hobby.

I had a 7 year old Samsung dumb phone before I bought my HTC One. Just goes to show, when it's about phones at least I tend to buy when I need a new one. Desktop hardware on the other hand I buy when I want a new toy.

Except that doing anything on a phone will take 10 times as long compared to a laptop.... But other than that yeah, smartphones are pretty handy.

$200 though? Contract or something?

I paid the full MSRP for my One here; 649€.

Well I was just looking at phones and where a non contract phone was going for $500+ and I could not see a reason. I decided to go with a new service and low and behold a all in one Data plan was cheaper than a phone plan. I went with Tmobile because well i am cheap and it cost me $45 a month. I got a Windows phone the 521 and it seems nice and the GPS in it is better than my tomtom that I have had for a minute.

I guess it is just since I do acquisitions for all these people here I got them IPHONE5s thought the company and now they are having more issues with the Iphones than we did with blackberries. I did not upgrade because my blackberry gets 4-5 days of battery and the iphones maybe a day.

Yeah it's with a 2 year contract. I'm not sure why you would buy it without one and pay the full msrp.

You have to have a company to provide you with your cell service or you can't use your phone lol........and I'm not going to waste my time trying to jump from cell company to cell company.
