I'm currently working on a P4 socket 478 presscot 2.8Ghz, which is of course - a single core.

For some reason when opening speedfan, it shows two bars for the processor usage status, as if there were 2 cores. When stressing using prime95 only one bar seems to reach full load(50%), again like this is a dual core system.

Windows task manager verifies this as well - only 50% load on the processor.

I'm running prime95 large ffts test.

why is this happening?

You prolly have Hyper-Threading enabled, wich tricks the pc in letting it think there are 2 cores, by emulating the other core.

You can disable this in BIOS or just run 2 instances of Prime95. I wouldn't disable it though, because you may have a little better performance while it's enabled.
