Hi, I have been using my AT&T Galaxy S3(SGH-I747,not rooted) since last August and it have been working fine. However since a Firmware update in last October I have been unable to get it recognized by my desktop or latptop and connect as a media device (with latest version of Samsung usb driver & kies) on any usb port.

I tried the following(none of them solved my issue):
  • Reset the phone to factory stock(twice)
  • updated to Android 4.1.1 on last reset(originally had ICS)
  • USB debugging mode
  • Called AT&T customer support, after doing a reset and seeing no result they offered me a warranty replacement(refurbished), I said I'll wait to decide(1 year warranty still have 6 month left)
  • At&T customer support redirected me to Samsung customer support on another call, after explaining my situation and have me uninstall and reinstall kies(still no dice), they offered me warranty repair(1 year factory warranty still 6 month left, I registered the phone to my Samsung account),I said I'll wait to decide.

I have read quite a few threads online on this topic via google serach, there doesn't seem to be a clean fix.

My next upgrade is after Feb 28, 2014.

Everything else on the phone is working fine, the only significant hindrance is file transfer(mostly photos) which could only be done via Wifi(Kies) and can be slow at times. If you had experienced this issue and fixed it please let me know how you did it. Otherwise let me know how you would deal with this situation if you are in my shoes.

Actually I think had ICS/4.0.X to at the beginning(bought the phone in August), and am currently on JB/4.1.1. Plus I am not trying to available as USB mass storage device, I am just trying to connect the phone to my computer so I sync/backup files such as photos.

i have two galaxy s3 running the latest update, both are properly detected by my PC without installing any driver or kies.
my phones shows up as media device, and you can access both internal and external storage in "my computer"

Fixed it by removing the battery, feels so silly right now
