Q6600 oc'd to 3.4

Hello peoples...quite ****ed i might say as I havent the slightest idea as to why my computer keeps freezing with an extremely high pitched noise coming from the speakers everytime it freezes. Voltages: My Vcore is 1.475 in bios, droops down to 1.39 sometimes under load in windows, SPP is 1.35, ram is 2.1 stock, FSB is 1.4.

My ram is unlinked, rated at 1066 with 5-5-5-15 settings which is what its advertised to do. so my ram is not overclocked in any way. the only thing im oc'ing is my cpu.

temperatures: the lowest i've seen it idle is at 26C, highest 40C, surrounding temperatures play a huge role. On an average day, 32-36 Idle. Under full load, 40-50. On a hot day, 50-60. On a very hot day, 55-67. I've never had it go anything over 67C. and EVEN WHEN IT HITS 67C it doesnt freeze, hang up, slow down, give me any type of warning, nothing, it'll continue processing like nothing. So i'm pretty sure this isnt a heat issue...

It'll just freeze..randomly, i could start a game, start playing, running around killing stuff, and then boom...high pitch noise freeze, after 2 minutes of gaming, temps would probably be around 35-40C on all cores...this has gotten to the point where its borderline annoying because it keeps on happening, at random intervals...i really cannot pinpoint what the issue is...

I've tried upping my vcore to as high as 1.525 in bios, even at that high the temperatures remain the same, nope, doesnt work, i've upped the SPP to 1.5, no go, FSB to 1.5....no go...i'm at the end of my rope and i'm beginning to think that i've gotten a bad one....and i really dont want to think that...also, as inconsistent as this problem is...i fail to believe i've gotten a bad chip...i could be gaming all day and night with temps as high as 67C as i've said before...NOT ONE freeze, next day, boot up, start a game up, wham, frozen....any ideas and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

another thing to add...i primed it at those first voltages and settings, 3.4 ghz, for 16 hours straight, not one error. Not one. that was months ago before i started getting the random high pitched freeze...

This sounds like your ram is unstable. Also if you didn't nVidia chipsets like to be ran at 1:1 ratio vs unlinked.

I would start by lowering your overclock ram to 1:1 (unlinked + sync) and then see if that's stable.
i think your nb might need some more cooling, the 750 runs hotter than the 650 with the nf200 chip next to it and my 650 used to run hot.

reason for me thinking this is; you have 4 dimms putting alot of stress on the mch and 2 g cards stressing the pcie which will have it running near its limits imo.

slap a fan on it and see if it helps any, if it does look at the thermalrighthr-05 or noctua nc-06, both very good nb heatsinks that you can stick a 60mm (or stock intel) fan to. or maybe think about a case with greater airflow.
If you have not done so already, consider pulling the sound card and enable on board audio. Test and see if your "squeal of death" is still present. This will perhaps point you in the right direction.
i'll try the soundcard deal, as i wanted to try that yesterday but i actually downclocked to stock settings and nothing really happend...didnt have any crashes or anything but then again, its an inconsistent problem, like last night i was playing l4d2 for 3 hours, hosting with 3 other people and it was smooth...then after i stopped playing i primed it til i woke up, and it rebooted on it's own :\\...

right now im running the ram at 1006 i believe (not a typo) at 5:4 settings, 8x multiplier on the FSB so its 425x8 i believe right now...whats supposed to be more stable, 8x or 9x? and thanks for the help guys i really appreciate it so far.
also i do have a small fan that came with the mobo that attaches to my NB...just so we're on the same page, NB=SPP yes? my SPP idle right now is 52-53 degrees...im gonna see how high it goes under load
after playing l4d2 for about 2 hours, spp stays around 55-57, i dont think it got any higher than that....also i'd like to note that it is incredibly hot right now in my house, my cores hit a high of 57C...so under load right now playing l4d2 they're around 50-57 i'd imagine...so im pretty sure this isnt a heat issue as of right now...
also this board doesnt like quads at all the highest oc i could get on my q6600 on it was 3.1 and i hit 3.5 on a p45 mobo i would rule out the ram first though
after playing with it for awhile, its still freezing, i swapped out the soundcard for onboard sound, that didnt help...what im wondering now is what is GTLVREF Lanes? theres a setting in my voltages for GTLREF lanes and i've no idea what they do, they're all on auto and i think it says Lane 1 is at +110mV and everything else is at 0...should i be messing with this or what?
one more thing im alittle unclear about, im not overclocking my ram, its rated at 1058 mhz, at 2.1v which is what its advertised to do...technically, its advertised to go to 1066 but im running it unlinked atm and it scaled down a tad, do i need to add more voltage to my ram even though im not overclocking it?
Is your overclock on your q6600 stable? did you run any tests on it? If not try Occt I never had a problem using it to stress my cpu.

EDIT: just read your post again missed the last part that you did stress it.
i have tested my ram, i've done countless amounts of stress testing on ram and cpu...tested ram with memtest86x with each individual stick...i've done it all...i'm at the end of my rope like i said again...and i'm almost sure it has something to do with my gtlvref lanes or something...whatever that is, i researched it a bit and i'm just clueless as to how i'm supposed to apply it to my overclock...and i dont want to burn out my cores, but like i said again, one of my lanes auto'd to +110mv and no other lanes have...should i put them all up there or is that risking too much?

Hope this guide helps

^^^this

Read the guide. Make sure to start with your highest "stable" oc. If you have any questions you can PM me if you like. Almost all q6600s will do 1800QDR with only 1.3v vFSB/VTT after proper GTL testing.

Recently helped a member with his q6600. His proc was very voltage hungry. Want 1.47v to run 3.2Ghz. He was able to OC the QDR to 1800 with a 7 multi and still only needed 1.3v vFSB/VTT. So, you can get the FSB up their even if its voltage hungry on the Ghz end.

hey guys, just giving a slight update, after a full week of stress testing, i fried my hard drive...go me...so i'm trying 450x8 right now, 3.6, and i've made a little progress, only this time, it doesn't just hard lock freeze on me anymore, now it's blue screening with 0x00000124 "an unrecoverable error has occurred" this happens within 15-20 minutes in prime95...i've upped my voltages a bit, put my vcore aaaalll the way up to 1.525 in bios, so now its 1.49-1.5 in windows, probly droops down to 1.45 when im priming...i ran memtest86 through 10 passes for a total of almost 24 hours and no errors, i did it with all my ram chips in place because i figure if i did get any errors with ram, then i'd have to test each one individually, i did not so i'm ruling out my ram indefinately.

so now i'm still testing it, i tried to mess with the gtlvref lanes but to no avail, i've tried soooo many combinations with that and it still errors out, so i'm not gonna mess with that too much anymore, i'm gonna stress it on this vcore really quick and see if i get any progress. just keeping you guys informed

try 1.5vcore and upping your mch vcore a lilbit

i believe i have it stable, at 1.5 vcore and 1.55 SPP....quick question, i know the vcore is a little high but...do you think i'd be damaging my spp at 1.55? thats the max it can go and its finally stable...my stats are 425x8, so 3.4 ghz with an 8x multiplier...stable and under load my temps never go above 45C...idle at 16-20C
Just another note:

NVIDIA chipsets are very very VERY picky about RAM. In some cases, the second (or the first) bank sets won't run as well as the other. My N790i board practically hates DIMMs in Slot 0/2 and wants them in 1/3.

Running all slots on an NForce board is asking for intermittent hangs. Trust be, I've been gone through quite some NForce chipsets.

Your best bet is running a DIMM in slot 0/2 or in 1/3 and not all four. Your Q6600 should not have any trouble staying perfectly stable at 3GHz with a 1333 FSB or 3.2GHz @ 1600.
alright guys, so my oc is stable, havent had any problems playing games or running prime, but now when i boot up my comp for the first time it blue screens with either 0x00000024, 0x0000001E or 0x0000000A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL)

this happens when i first turn on my computer for the day or have it off for a long time then boot it up, and it only happens once, once i reboot it, everythings fine, i play games for hours and do whatever, and its fine and dandy.

the two stop errors 0x0000001E and 0x00000024 site nvstor64.sys as the culprit, but when the irql error came, it didnt site it, but i assume thats the cause. i doubt its because of my overclock cuz...i mean...i can play games and have no problems, i can stress test and have 100% stability. I read somewhere that it's related to using windows update to update either the nvidia network driver and/or sata driver, and i DID update my network driver with windows update but i cant seem to uninstall or roll it back, any ideas?
