Problem with Internet connection at office

This is a long post, to describe the problem, please be patient!

We have been having a weird problem with our internet connection here at work:

We have verizon/fairpoint DSL and a Linksys WRV210 Business router. We have a mix of people connected wirelessly and hardwired. Both the modem and router have been replaced since this problem began.

On the majority of days there are 3-4 people here and connected. this problem is the same through out all the computers, running chrome, IE and Firefox web browsers...

When the problem occurs

We can be streaming radio from the existing connection, and be able to send and receive emails through outlook, to an outside email server.

If I am on a webpage, say OCN, I can continue to surf within OCN, but outside hosted pictures do no show up, and any external links show up dead.

I can stay connect to gmail, chat in the gmail chat, send and receive emails in it, etc...

I can also perform a google search, get results, but then when I click one of those links, I get a page cannot be displayed error. This same error occurs when I type a direct address in to a new page I may not have visited recently.

So essentially we still have an active connection (outlook, streaming radio, and gmail open) but we cant surf anywhere else.

Problem is temporarily resolved by resetting the router.

Any ideas? we have been battling this for months now... the ISP is useless, Linksys/Cisco was only a step above useless...

gone through the router, cant find any limiting factors.

Any ideas as to what this could be, or what the fix would be? thanks, Sorry again for the long winded post

This is going to come down to a firewall issue in the router I'm sure.

Does the router have log files you can view? How long does it generally take for the issue to reoccur after the router is reset? Have you tried setting one of the computers to DMZ (taking off the firewall) and seeing if the issue persists?
Sounds like the NAT table is getting full or you're having some DNS problems.
Yeah, I'd guess DNS. Try hard-coding your DNS servers into the Linksys, then release/renew any affected PCs.

To do this go to the Basic Setup page, halfway down in the LAN settings section is "User Defined DNS Servers", check that, and enter in the DNS server IP addresses.
unfortunatly we dont have a NAT, and no Dedicated DNS Server these machines connect to, its a small company, only 4 of us in the office at a time.

We have a DSL connection with static Ip configured, all apppropriate static info has been configured in the router.

I havent had a chance to play with the router logging, I have to figure out what its asking for, and what software is required to look at it.

I have no tried disabling the firewall on the router, I am not totally comfortable doing that since i have no control over whether or not everyone else is running a firewall...

After I reset the router and or modem, the problem may not happen again for another day or so, or can happen later in the day, very sporadic.

The fairpoint guy told me to uninstall search bar addons if i have multiple and clear my internet history.... totally useless...

This network is not much different than a Home network.

If you're running a router and they all have access to the internet, then you're running NAT (unless you're using ISP-provided IP's). Is DHCP enabled on your router? If so, tell the DHCP service on the router that it should provide another DNS IP than the ones from your ISP - preferabely the OpenDNS ones, as they're fairly fast. Try these 2 IP's:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Man I wish I knew more about this stuff, ive always had the capability to set them up, and make some changes. I don't know why I didn't think I had a NAT. guess I was thinking of something else.

Anyways, is the User defined DNS Servers setting where I assign the DNS Ips, Its under the lan configuration. I have 2 DNS servers assigned under the Internet Setup portion of the router, but will changing those effect how the Static IP from my ISP works? We have a Static IP assigned from the DSL Modem configured in the router? so instead of using DHCP from the modem, I have it configured for a Static IP provided by the ISP.

thanks for the help! id rep you if I could gonX

I can try to scrounge up a screenshot, but honestly, you need to try this.

That's the exact place I'm talking about
If your ISP does not block DNS requests (some company ISPs do), then you should be able to change the DNS there. It won't affect anything.
