Hard Disk problem i think
I turn it on, it loads to windows loading screen and after that it just flashes bluescreen and restarts. I went to BIOS and took hard drive test, and it failed.
It was a new hard disk bought from a friend.
The older and the first hd, which was in stock - same thing happened with it.
Oh thats just the start of problems, i see alot of the DV series have motherboard issues, so once you get your HDD problem fixed I'd say start backing up your data
Wouldnt hurt to start it up with a windows disk and see if it can repair. It could be just a windows problem.Probably not going to be the case but its worth a try.Yes I agree with the DV series being junk.I have a dust collector myself.
Hit F8 on boot and disable the 'Automatic Restart On System Failure' get the code and punch it in, it can be a number of things but I doubt the CMOS battery would fix it.
It's F EIGHT not F10. It'll give you some boot options and that's where you change it.
Also there is a BIOs HDD test you can access in BIOs via F10, run the short and extended S.M.A.R.T. test. If it fails obviously you have a bad drive but if it BSODs on boot it's more than likely an OS issue.
*Edit* Also, if you hit F10 and it takes a while to get into the BIOs it's a good indication that your drive is bad, for reference you can take the HDD out and boot to the BIOs and reference that access speed. Abnormal time for BIOs boot is around 5 to 10 seconds or longer.

That drive and laptop use sata (I have a dv6000). The drive will fit into any sata equipped device/enclosure. Just remove the proprietary HP connector thing, and keep it safe.
My dv6000 never had issues, but for that matter neither did my 360 so I guess im just lucky in that sense.
I read that it should often be cleaned from dust .. and why hd dies ? Because of the heat ?
edit: In bios when i do the detect hard drive test (diagnostics), it fails.
How's that possible .. my hd didnt last for even a month :s
You got a faulty hard drive, it happens. The fail could be due to a READ/VERIFY issue which is corrupt sectors i.e. Power Failure during an installation or defrag. Try your windows recovery discs and try running a repair see if it helps any, give me the Model # off of the bottom of the laptop and I can give you the correct restore disc numbers in case you need to order them.
OP, I got to ask. Is the new HDD a 7200 RPM drive? I upgraded to one in my HP DV2125 and the heat it generated destroyed my chipset (well I think it has to do with the cheap lead based solder HP uses). I sent my board in to have a new NVIDIA chipset resoldered, and the new board went out 2 months later. It wasnt until after that I did some research on the HP DV 2000 and DV6000 series. I'm now looking for a cheap working motherboard on eBay so I can get the laptop up and running again to give to a friend.

The problem is you have a DV2000, those things are absolute garbage and 99% of the time they come in for no video issues. The boards they used are known to be faulty and they have a MFG coverage called on them if it's a AMD Turion/nVidia Board purchased within two years of the current days date. i.e. If it was purchased March 18th of 07' then tomorrow would be the last day it falls under a MFG coverage.

I bought it in Nov 2006, so it is already passed the warranty. I now have a Dell XPS laptop.
