Hey guys. Just returned my 4850 x2 for a Diamond 4870 x2. Figured I might as well blow it out. Anyway, upon opening the box I noticed a few of the black "pins" (which I assume are part of the heatsink) are missing. I didn't think a big deal of it, but when installing the card and loading up 3D Mark 06 I noticed a shrill buzzing/squealing sound emanating from the card under heavy load.

So, should I return the card and try again? Or is my PSU about to catch fire under load?

Indeed, a fiery inferno would be detrimental to my warranty, and doubly so to my hardware. Currently reinstalling windows and installing fresh drivers, we'll see if that has any impact on the card's unwelcome musical performance.

Strange, I've seen this issue occur time and time again amongst others, but a source seems difficult to pinpoint.

On the bright side, the card will no doubt make an excellent door stop.
