Problems with X in Fedora 10

Hello all.
I've been using Fedora since FC4 and haven't really encountered any problem like this before. I'm thinking it's hardware related, most likely video card.

I had F9 but figured since I upgraded hardware, I'd check out F10. Installed fine, grub loaded and boot into the new kernel fine. Kernel loads and I'm stuck at a black screen with a blinking cursor.

I'm assuming this is a problem with X either not finding the driver for this VGA, or Xorg.conf not configured correctly, and something I'd have to do via command line by booting with the install disk. The 200 series cards are supported, and I usually have to compile the driver anyway, but I've at least been able to get into the gui first.

It's the x86-64 version. Anyone with similar hardware using Fedora had a problem?

It sounds like the video drivers didn't get installed. Did you install F10 fresh? Or did you upgrade?
Upgraded from 9. Figured I'd save myself the trouble of installing some stuff. I didn't even consider my old configs would be saved. No problem if I need to install fresh, but figured I'd learn something new by solving this the hard way

I am not as much of a Fedora guru as some here, but I have heard lots of people say they have problems when doing upgrades. Have you tried installing the akmod for your video driver? The akmod package seems to allow you to avoid the video driver issue when upgrading kernels.

No I hadn't but I'll definitely try that. Seems like I was always recompiling to get my card working properly. Akmod and rpm fusion will probably save me a lot of headaches.

Yes it will. This is covered in my Linux Software Guide (see below). Be sure to go through and uninstall the previous driver before you attempt to install the driver via RPM Fusion.
