I'm made up this built for a friend, his budget is around $3000

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Motherboard: EVGA nForce 680i SE SLI 775 TR Version
Memory: OCZ Reaper 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 1150 (PC2 9200)
Graphics: PNY GeForce 8800GTX 768MB (SLi)
Case: Antec P182 Gun Metal Black ATX Mid Tower
CPU Cooling: Tuniq Tower 120 P4 & K8 CPU Cooler
Thermal Paste: Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
Power supply: PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad
Hard drives: Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB (RAID 0)
Optical drive: Sony NEC Optiarc 18X DVD±RBurner
Sound card: bluegears b-Enspirer 7.1
Keyboard: Microsoft Wired Ergonomics Keyboard
Mouse: Razer DeathAdder

I'm still not sure if the RAM is fully compatible with the mobo, & does anybody knows what's Q6600 overclocking limitations

The Q6600 should reach 3.2ghz with a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme.
Well at least thats what I've seen.

Why not get a pair of Raptors in RAID for the O/S?

And he may as well go Vista Ultimate, I think its worth it (especially OEM).
64 bit may be a thought too.

I would personally change the speakers if you have the money to Z-5500's. I would want incredible sound for that price! Also I would change the RAM to crucial..

Overall though, the parts are very well chosen although maybe add some water cooling loop for the CPU. Also out of personal preference I would get a much more expensive mouse and keyboard but thats just me!
