Hey all,

i've had my HTPC up for a while now with an Atom board in it, but since it wasn't fast enough for HD playback...i changed it for an old AMD X2 4000+ cpu + 8800GT. works flawless now...
But that's not the point of this thread....

The point is...i now had a spare Atom board without a case...
Also i found an old Xbox360 case lying around...emtpy...

Yep...the Atom is going in the 360 case

And so...Project X begins

The lonely and naked Foxconn D52S board:

The empty X360 case:

The naked PSU that's going in there as well

The idea is pretty simple, everything has to go inside the case.
Board / PSU / HDD.
So far i've started with trying different layouts, cutting up the psu so it can fit inside, and searching for ways to connect a power button + led.

So i'll keep you posted

Ok, time for the first update

i've cut out the rear grill so that all connectors are available,
and i've been messing around with the PSU.
so... here are some pics

Just the board in the case

Opened up the rear

With the PSU in place (sort off)

Unfortunatly that's all i could do today...had to fix a computer for a client as well

Hopefully tomorrow i can make some standoffs for the mobo and psu so that they stay in place, and maybe even make the holes for the power cord + switch of the psu.

i'll keep you posted

Yeah time for another update

i've had some free time today so i modded a bit

Here are some pics with the progress:

i completed the opening in the rear

placed the mobo standoffs

close-up of the standoffs and hot glue

put the sides on to see how it looks

just enough clearance

and the perfect height as well

since that worked so well, i did the same for the PSU, but this time i melted some leftover plastic for extra strength. looks ugly, but works well.

and the PSU in place as well

now THAT is close

that's it for now, next i'm gonna de-solder some psu wires so i can fit the switch and plug in the back of the case, and then i'm gonna search for a place to stuff a hdd in there

i'll keep you posted

hey guys!

time for another update
biggrin.gif

Unfortunatly everything went rather slow today, so i couldn't get much done
frown.gif

But still...this had to be done eventually, so why not today

i started with desoldering the psu switch and plug
sdc12836h.jpg

pushed it through the holes in the back, and used a bit of superglue to keep it in place
sdc12837.jpg

then i used a lot of hot glue to permanently keep it in place

like this

the ugly inside

then used some putty to cover it up

looks pretty good

so now i have to wait untill it's all hardened out, maybe i'll start to cut up some cables to save space

try and find some 40mm fans to mount on the sides where the grey pieces pop on. This is a great idea, hope it works out!

that's the place the fans will go yes, but probably not 40mm but a bit bigger
